"Bridge" for social evils?
“Before agreeing to advertise, you have to know what the website is about. How can you say you don’t know now!? Are you guys so superficial?”; “Everyone knows except you 5 people, what a joke! Artists are becoming more and more blatant in their advertising”… Many comments from the audience directly confront the singers of the group Ngu Ho Tuong - the group that made the MV Anh em tru sau nhu mot.
Previously, singers including Ung Hoang Phuc, Khanh Phuong, Lam Chan Huy, Duong Ngoc Thai, and Luu Hung formed a music group called Ngu Ho Tuong and released their first MV Anh em truoi sau nhu mot. Immediately, the audience discovered that the MV contained many images related to a gambling website.
What is more noteworthy is that instead of admitting their mistakes, the people involved tried to escape blame and cover up their mistakes. Khanh Phuong blamed the production team, saying he was just negligent and did not check again. Ung Hoang Phuc quietly changed the new MV without the betting website logo on his personal social network page and denied participating in advertising... In response to the serious incident, Ho Chi Minh City Police directed the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (PA05) to verify, clarify and handle it according to regulations.
According to lawyer Ngo Viet Bac, Head of the Saigon Tay Nguyen Law Office, Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association, "organizing gambling" does not necessarily require specific gambling activities, but only requires creating conditions and means (such as advertising, links, interfaces...) for others to participate. Gambling advertising can be an important link in that organization. The police will investigate and determine whether the artists intentionally collude, conspire, and share profits directly from the bookmaker or gambling organizer to "assist" the network.
If so, they will be prosecuted for the crime of “organizing gambling or gambling” under Article 322 of the 2015 Penal Code. If not, they will be handled at the level of administrative violations. “The law does not differentiate or favor violations between famous and non-famous people,” lawyer Ngo Viet Bac emphasized.
Put standards first
In recent days, many artists have been called out by netizens, suspected of disguised advertising when their previous images and performances were "dug up", showing some connection to betting websites and bookmakers - activities strictly prohibited by Vietnamese law. Like Thieu Bao Tram, Ho Quang Hieu, Chau Khai Phong, Lam Chan Huy, Pham Truong, Blacka... some have publicly corrected, some have remained silent, but there are also many artists who laugh it off and say that it is a story... in the past.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Khanh Hong, Deputy Head of Department PA05, Ho Chi Minh City Police, affirmed that the law clearly stipulates violations related to gambling and gambling advertising. When participating in events abroad, artists will be responsible according to the laws of the host country. However, after the event ends, if artists use media products to post content with signs of advertising gambling activities or organizing gambling on accounts such as Facebook, Zalo... aimed at Vietnamese audiences, they will be handled according to the provisions of the law.
“Artists and celebrities with large followings must be responsible for researching and studying the content and events they participate in and carry out, to avoid intentionally or unintentionally aiding social evils, bad trends, and violations of the law,” Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Khanh Hong warned.
In the context of toxic content and disguised advertising increasingly infiltrating cultural and artistic products, incidents like the above affect the reputation of artists, raising big questions about the awareness of law compliance and social responsibility of artists. This is a big lesson for artists, management teams, event organizers... about putting ethical standards and community interests above all to join hands in building a civilized digital environment.
Department PA05, Ho Chi Minh City Police Department issued a warning about disguised gambling advertising. Accordingly, common gambling advertising tricks include: creating multi-themed social networking pages and integrating advertising symbols and images related to gambling; using the influence of celebrities, artists, and KOLs for advertising; encouraging participation with attractive rewards and gifts...
