Tran Thanh’s film Mai is receiving a lot of attention from the audience. After just over 2 weeks of being released in theaters, the actor’s third film has surpassed the 475 billion VND mark in revenue, breaking many Vietnamese box office records.

Responding to the love of this audience, Tran Thanh shared: "You write so well. Next to Mai are Binh Minh and Duong. Both are the light of Mai's life. But Binh Minh is bright. But on the other side is Trung Duong, although he is the sunlight, he will fade away. Thank you for thinking deeply about the film."

Tran Thanh caused controversy again when explaining the meaning of the characters' names in the movie "Mai".

However, Tran Thanh's sharing received a lot of controversy. According to the male director, Trung Duong (the character's name in the movie Mai ) means sunshine but will "fall down". This interpretation of Tran Thanh surprised many viewers, some even humorously said that they wanted to faint.

In the Sino-Vietnamese Dictionary, author Dao Duy Anh explains that "trung duong" means Tet on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month, also known as Tet Trung Cuu. Besides, trung duong also means the vast ocean.

Although the film is receiving many good reviews from the audience. However, Tran Thanh's "one-man-one-man" explanation unintentionally makes netizens bored. Many opinions say that Tran Thanh is a talkative person, but also makes many semantic mistakes.

However, there are also people who defend Tran Thanh, saying that he is using his own "wordplay", or that it is just a small mistake that does not deserve heavy criticism.

The film revolves around the life of the female lead named Mai (Phuong Anh Dao), a nearly 40-year-old masseuse who accidentally meets musician Duong (Tuan Tran) and is pursued by him. Compared to the two films Mrs. Nu's House and Godfather, Tran Thanh's Mai received the least mixed reviews. Tran Thanh showed a clear improvement, from the camera angle, scene transitions to storytelling. The film no longer had too many scenes of arguing and "market" dialogue between the characters. Mai is considered Tran Thanh's best film to date.

However, there is also a lot of controversy surrounding the ending that Tran Thanh chose. Many people praised Tran Thanh for bringing a very realistic ending, others said that this ending was not satisfying and caused a lot of regret for the audience.
