Children are lazy to study, what should parents do?

VTC NewsVTC News19/09/2023

Only 7% of students have the ability to study "deeply" on their own.

Through 600 surveys collected, only 7.34% of children have the ability to self-study at a high level, more than 17% are at an average level and most of the remaining students are "afraid" to self-study. This problem is really alarming because it affects the ability to absorb knowledge and directly impacts the learning results of children.

This study also shows that students lack other skills to develop self-learning capacity, typically the skill of building a learning environment.

So what effect does the internet have on children’s ability to self-study? According to a survey, 64.3% of students use the internet in their studies and 67.8% of them prefer to use social networks than newspapers.

Students also pointed out that learning via the internet helps provide solutions quickly, but the limitation is that accuracy is not guaranteed, there is no support for answers. However, this creates a situation where students gradually become "lazy" to think and dependent on the internet.

Why do we need self-study habits?

Self-study skills are extremely important in the development journey of each person. This ability needs to be trained and cultivated from a young age and maintained and cared for until adulthood in the process of discovering knowledge and mastering abilities.

For students, in addition to studying at school, they also need to be proactive in seeking out new knowledge and information. This skill not only helps children improve their academic performance at school but also improves their knowledge in other areas.

Lacking the ability to self-study, children will be "worn out" in critical thinking, forever withdrawing into their comfort zone and always waiting for their parents and teachers to push them to develop. This problem is similar to the old situation of "teachers reading - students copying", only helping students meet the requirements of the lesson but not focusing on developing their abilities.

What should parents do?

So what should parents do to help their children develop their full potential and practice self-study habits? Parents need to be good role models to help their children develop independent thinking, avoid errors in thinking and encourage their creative ideas. From an early age, teach your children how to create their own study plans, research materials and discover other skills outside of books,...

Another way to help students overcome the habit of relying on technology and develop the ability to learn independently is to rely on systematic training programs with support from teachers. Especially for students in primary and secondary school age, having the accompaniment of teachers is extremely necessary to guide and teach how to learn.

NovaTeen is a training program that helps secondary school students master Math - Literature - English knowledge using innovative methods, with a commitment to quality. Teachers will closely follow your child in each lesson and are ready to help with homework and difficult exercises when studying at school. This will help your child feel secure and less dependent on technology because they will be supported and taught in detail by teachers.

NovaTeen students will be guaranteed a passing score for grade 10, helping to reduce pressure on parents when their children are in the stage of skipping grades. 100% of students and parents whose children are studying at NovaTeen are satisfied with the quality of teaching. Currently, NovaTeen and Moon are cooperating to implement activities aimed at " Education Equity - helping young people access quality and effective training programs".

Only when children can adapt to the learning motto: Self-study and self-control are essential. Only when students can build a sense of self-awareness to study and seek knowledge instead of waiting for reminders from parents or depending on technology, will that knowledge be sustainable and profound.
