Trekking nearly 30km to see rhododendron flowers on Putaleng peak

Putaleng is a long and dangerous trekking route, challenging even professional trekkers.

Mr. Nguyen Duy (34 years old, Hanoi ) had a memorable 2-day-1-night Putaleng trekking trip with a total distance of nearly 30km: "I have conquered almost all the mountain peaks in Lao Cai, so I want to try trekking in Lai Chau. “This direction is arguably the most beautiful because it has streams, old forests, cardamom, bamboo forests and flowers. Because the weather this year is more severe than usual, the higher you go, the colder and foggier it gets,” the male tourist shared. Photo: NVCC

He assessed this as a rather difficult trekking route, because the higher you go, the steeper and more slippery it gets, especially when it rains, the road will be muddy. For those new to this sport, Putaleng will not be a reasonable choice. Photo: NVCC

“On the second day, the whole group had to travel nearly 16km. This is quite a long distance for those new to trekking. On the way back to Si Thau Chai village, two first-time climbers fell behind and had to travel in the late evening and only went down the mountain at 7pm. At that time, everyone in the group was very worried even though there were two porters accompanying them (guides and helpers carrying things),” he said. Photo: NVCC

However, for those who are used to trekking and have a "passion" for exploring and conquering, long distances and harsh weather are not big problems: "The oldest member of our group is Ms. Thu, who is nearly 70 years old this year. Although she is old, she can climb just as well as young people. She said she has also conquered 2 mountain peaks in Lao Cai and regularly exercises to maintain her health." Photo: NVCC

According to Mr. Duy, trekkers who want to conquer Putaleng should carefully prepare basic items such as sticks, gloves, shoes, hats... and especially must diligently jog, climb stairs, and practice endurance exercises to avoid injury or falling behind along the way.
