Paying tribute to heroic soldiers at Phuoc Ninh Cemetery

DNO - On the morning of August 15, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Chau ward solemnly held a ceremony to pay tribute to the souls of heroic martyrs at Phuoc Ninh Cemetery (Hai Chau ward, Da Nang city).

Attending the ceremony were Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the City National Assembly Delegation Nguyen Van Quang and Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet.

Before the souls of the heroic soldiers, the city delegation respectfully offered flowers and incense to commemorate the merits of their ancestors, expressed gratitude to the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the early years of Da Nang's resistance against the French, and vowed to live up to the noble sacrifices of the heroic soldiers; unite, join forces, and be determined to build a peaceful, civilized, and modern Da Nang city.

Phuoc Ninh Cemetery was established in 1876, a sacred place marking the nameless heroes who fell in the glorious battles with the French army when the colonialists occupied Da Nang from 1858 to 1860.

The cemetery includes more than 1,500 graves, and in particular, this place also preserves a very valuable blue-black sandstone stele and the graves of two generals Nguyen Viet Thu and Nguyen Thuong Chat.

During the city's urban beautification process, these graves were relocated to Hoa Vang Cemetery and Son Ga Cemetery (in Hoa Tien commune, Da Nang city).

The content of the stele helped later generations know the number of collected remains, the list of people in charge of this meaningful work, the reason for choosing the location of the cemetery, and the name of the author of the stele.

The entire content of the stele praises chivalry, praises heroes, honors the righteous people, and those who sacrificed themselves for the country.

In 1988, Phuoc Ninh Cemetery was recognized as a national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture.
