Gratitude to heroic mothers

In the long struggle against the invaders, millions of outstanding children have forever devoted their youth to the Fatherland. Although the war has been over for many decades, the pain of losing loved ones and the anxiety of not finding the remains of martyrs are still deeply engraved in the hearts of great mothers – Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.

The endless torment

Vietnamese Heroic Mother Tran Thi Ly (Ea Phe commune) had 10 children, but after the war, only two sons remained with her. In her lucid years, she always had a burning desire to find the remains of her husband and children, to comfort the pain of separation caused by war, so that the souls of her loved ones could be "reunited" under one roof.

In the years 1959-1960, Mother Ly's family and many other families were forced by the puppet government to move to Dak Lak, to establish a Quang Cu plantation. Mother's eldest son, Ho Xuan Ly, escaped early and became a nurse at Bac Tam Ky infirmary - a frontline infirmary, located close to the disputed area on the Quang Nam battlefield. While performing the task of treating wounded soldiers and protecting the infirmary, martyr Ho Xuan Ly remained forever in the sacred land when he was only 22 years old.

In the new land, Mother Ly's family continued to participate in the movement to liberate the plantations. During the General Offensive and Uprising of Spring Mau Than 1968, Mother's husband Ho Dat was captured and executed by the enemy right on the political struggle path. Then, in the years 1970 - 1971, the US - puppet regime tightened the blockade, raided the plantations in the liberated areas, Mother Ly's family continued to suffer many bad news when 3 other children also lay down in the mountains and forests of H9 because of bombs, hunger, thirst and disease. It was not until 2004 that Mother Ly's family found the remains of martyr Ho Dat, gathered them at the Krong Pac Martyrs' Cemetery. As for the remains of martyr Ho Xuan Ly and her seventh daughter, to this day, the family has not found them...

According to information from the Department of Home Affairs, in Dak Lak province, there are 53 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers living with their children and grandchildren. The Mothers are all old and weak, many of them are over 100 years old. In recent years, in order to repay gratitude, many agencies and businesses have taken care of the Mothers, regularly visited, encouraged and supported their families to take care of the Mothers' material and spiritual lives.

Like Mother Ly, Vietnamese Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Xuan (Ia Rve commune) also bears many war scars in her heart. Her husband, martyr Nguyen Van Bi, and her son, martyr Nguyen Thanh Hung, both participated in the resistance war against the US and heroically sacrificed. At the age of 90, Mother Xuan currently lives with her daughter's family in the sunny and windy border area. Although life is peaceful, her daughter's family and grandchildren take good care of her, her eyes are still distant, filled with sadness for her husband and son who have fallen in the land of the coconut fire of years ago...

Responsibility and heart

July has come, amidst the busy work of a newly established unit, the Defense Command of Region 3 - Ea Sup still devotes all its love and deep concern to the Vietnamese Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Xuan. Although having to go against the route, more than 50 km to village 10, Ia Rve border commune, the visit to Mother by Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Dinh Cuong, Deputy Political Commissar of the Defense Command of Region 3 - Ea Sup and the working delegation was still full of meaning and full of affection.

In the cozy little house, Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Dinh Cuong held Mother Xuan's skinny hands, kindly asked about her health, and gave a preliminary report on the new unit's situation, like a son talking to his mother. That sincere concern was not only a responsibility but also a precious sentiment from the soldiers' hearts.

Also paying much attention and care to Mother, Ia Rve Border Guard Station has been taking care of Mother Xuan since 2016. Every month, the unit sends officers and soldiers to visit and give gifts; regularly cares about Mother's health, works closely with the family to clean, clear bushes, and repair the house. Each small action, but full of love, is proof of deep affection, helping Mother feel more secure to live happily and healthily.

For the officers and soldiers of the Provincial Police, the responsibility of taking care of the Vietnamese Heroic Mother Tran Thi Ly is also a command of the heart. Over the past 8 years, the soldiers in blue have made many visits to visit and encourage Mother Ly and her family, sharing some of the joys and sorrows in life. When the weather changed, Mother was also taken care of and treated by doctors of the Provincial Police Hospital, many times helping her overcome the diseases of old age.

At the age of 99, Mother Ly no longer recognized familiar faces. However, the handshakes and kind greetings of the green-shirted soldiers seemed to have somewhat comforted the deep pain and loss in Mother's heart. Lieutenant Colonel Ha Duc Thang, Deputy Captain of the Social Policy and Insurance Team, Personnel Organization Department (Provincial Police) confided: "Every time we visit Mother, we appreciate and appreciate the value of peace, unity and national independence. Taking care of Mother is not only a gratitude for the sacrifices of previous generations but also a reminder for us, the police officers and soldiers, to constantly train and contribute to continue the mission of firmly protecting the security and defense of the Fatherland on the path of development today."
