According to the assignment plan, referee Truong Hong Vu will return to duty in the 2023 National First Division from round 6.
Referee Truong Hong Vu had a controversial penalty call in round 5 of V-League.
Specifically, Mr. Vu took on the role of table referee in the match between Quang Nam and Hue on the afternoon of May 30.
While the main referee is Mr. Le Duc Thuan, assistants Dang Quy and Tran Dang Chien.
Previously, Mr. Truong Hong Vu worked in V-League but after the wrong whistle in round 5, this "black shirt king" has been absent until now.
Specifically, in the match between Nam Dinh and Khanh Hoa on April 7, Mr. Vu blew the whistle for a penalty kick in the 90+5 minute. That led to an equalizer for the team from Thanh Nam.
In this situation, Mai Xuan Quyet (Nam Dinh) ran down to compete for the ball with goalkeeper Ngoc Cuong ( Khanh Hoa ) in the penalty area and a collision occurred.
Referee Vu then thought that Khanh Hoa's "goalkeeper" had fouled striker Xuan Quyet so he pointed to the penalty spot.
Mr. Vu even gave Ngoc Cuong a red card but later changed it to a yellow card.
After the match ended, the referee's penalty whistle caused many mixed opinions.
Experts also commented that it was a wrong whistle by referee Truong Hong Vu because in the football situation the fouler was Mai Xuan Quyet.
Even if it was legal, the Nam Dinh player would be the one penalized for the high kick.
However, the Referee Board later affirmed that Mr. Vu was correct in saying that Mai Xuan Quyet had actively played and controlled the ball before goalkeeper Ngoc Cuong rushed out at high speed, unable to control his speed, leading to a collision.
However, Mr. Vu has not been assigned any duties since the match between Nam Dinh and Khanh Hoa.
