Vietnam women's sepak takraw team won the world championship in the 4-person event

On the afternoon of July 27, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team excellently won the world championship after defeating host Thailand in the final match of the 4-person event.

The match was held in Songkhla province (Thailand) in a passionate atmosphere. All tickets were bought by Thai fans, many spectators had to wait in long lines to enter the stadium. The cheers from the home audience helped Thailand start the game better, winning 15-12 in the first half thanks to the high performance of striker Ratsamee Thongsod.

However, the turning point came in the second half when the Vietnamese players tightened their formation and deployed a solid defense and effective counterattack. Striker Ngoc Yen played outstandingly with decisive scoring moves, helping the home team win 15-8. In the third half, the good coordination and bravery in each move helped Vietnam completely dominate the game, surpassing their opponents with a score of 15-7.

The final score came from a service error by Thai player Wiphada Chitphuan. That moment also marked the moment when the entire Vietnamese team burst into tears. The players and coaching staff hugged each other, celebrating the victory. This is the third time the Vietnamese women's team has won the world championship, after two times in 2022 and 2023.

This defeat caused the Thai women's team to continue to miss their chance to win the title, after losing to Vietnam in the World Cup final in March this year.

A few hours earlier, the Vietnamese men's sepak takraw team lost to Japan in the final match of the 4-a-side event, with a score of 0-2. This is the 4th consecutive time that the Vietnamese men's team has stopped at the world final, despite having defeated Thailand in the semi-finals. The Vietnamese sepak takraw team currently has 2 silver medals and 1 gold medal at this year's tournament.
