High-tech shrimp farming is 5 times more effective than traditional farming.
As one of the first households to use chlorine gas to treat the water supply for shrimp ponds effectively, Mr. Dang Van Bay, Thanh Phong commune, Thanh Phu district ( Ben Tre ) said that after 2 years of using chlorine gas to treat the water source to kill bacteria instead of chlorine powder, this new technique helps Mr. Bay save billions of dong each year.
According to Mr. Bay, in the past, when raising shrimp, we had to use a very large area to make a pond to treat water, because we had to use chlorine powder to spread directly into the pond to treat, not dissolve evenly in the water, so it was both labor-intensive and land-intensive. Besides, chlorine powder directly affects the health of workers, and the price of chlorine powder is also 3-4 times higher than chlorine gas.
Since switching to using chlorine gas, the land area for water treatment has decreased, and this land has been used to build more shrimp ponds. Shrimp raised in water environment treated with chlorine gas are healthier and have higher productivity. Mr. Bay shared that currently, all of his family's more than 40 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming have used chlorine gas. In addition to reducing input material costs, farmers are more effective due to increased productivity and profits compared to before.
Mr. Le Van Sam, Thanh Hai commune, Thanh Phu district said, when joining the billionaire farmer club, he learned about the new technique of using chlorine gas to treat water in shrimp farming, Mr. Sam applied it to his family farm with high efficiency, each year Mr. Sam reduces the cost of buying chlorine powder to treat water by 1.5 billion VND. In addition to the technique of applying chlorine gas, Mr. Sam has applied the technique of making a screen to cover the entire pond.
According to Mr. Sam, applying a screen to cover the entire pond has brought great efficiency. If one of the ponds unfortunately has an epidemic, farmers can isolate it to prevent the disease from spreading outside. Mr. Sam analyzed that in the past, without a screen, if a pond had a disease and the shrimp died, birds and storks would come to eat the shrimp carrying the disease and fly to other ponds, from there the disease spread and was difficult to control. Farmers sometimes had problems with the entire pond due to the spread of disease.
In addition, using curtains helps farmers control the farming environment (temperature) to help shrimp grow best, especially when raising shrimp in the off-season. Mr. Sam said that since applying two new techniques in shrimp farming, using chlorine gas and curtains, it has brought great efficiency in reducing production costs, while productivity has increased, thereby increasing economic efficiency by 15-20% compared to before.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Ban, Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Ben Tre province, the application of new techniques in production has been deployed by the association at all levels to replicate effective models to other members in the province. From there, the members have applied them with high efficiency.
Ben Tre province currently has more than 3,500 hectares of shrimp farming applying high technology in many stages, through which new techniques in shrimp farming are effectively applied by households. In addition, the Farmers' Association of Ben Tre province has organized the establishment of a billionaire farmer club specializing in shrimp farming. Through the club's activities, new scientific and technical applications in shrimp farming have been shared by members. In particular, the use of gaseous chlorine instead of traditional chlorine and the closed-house pond system, from one member of the club, has been deployed to other members and has been widely deployed by members.
In the coming time, the provincial associations will continue to deploy effective models and techniques to other farmers, thereby increasing production area and ensuring product quality to supply many domestic and foreign markets.
