As the highest-level specialized hospital in the province in the field of obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics, Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has realized the dream of becoming parents for thousands of infertile couples with a high success rate thanks to modern treatment regimens and medical interventions. The hospital's Reproductive Support Department currently treats infertility cases using internal medicine, surgery, artificial insemination, and especially in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Accordingly, the hospital continuously updates new techniques in the field of IVF, such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI); sperm aspiration from the epididymis (PESA), sperm extraction by epididymal surgery (MESA), sperm extraction by testicular surgery (TESE) for cases of male infertility; embryo and sperm freezing, egg freezing, sperm banking, assisted hatching; platelet-rich plasma injection; sperm preparation by microflow method... At the same time, the modern Timelapse embryo culture system is put into use to continuously monitor embryo development to help increase the rate of embryo implantation, select the correct embryo for transfer, and reduce the rate of miscarriage.

To improve the success rate of IVF, the Department of Assisted Reproduction has implemented genetic techniques (diagnosis of Thalassemia gene mutations, AZF region mutations causing male infertility, sperm fragmentation testing, detection of chromosomal aneuploidy by QF-PCR...) to screen and select healthy embryos, increasing the chance of successful pregnancy. In particular, couples who have been identified as carrying the Thalassemia gene (congenital hemolytic anemia) and want to have healthy children should perform in vitro fertilization and embryo screening with the aim of selecting disease-free embryos to transfer into the uterus.

In the field of obstetrics and gynecology, the hospital has successfully performed emergency resuscitation surgery on many cases of severe preeclampsia; embolization in the treatment of ectopic pregnancy, uterine fibroids, and incisional pregnancy; laparoscopic surgery to treat genital prolapse; laparoscopic surgery to suture the uterus before pregnancy; chorionic villus biopsy, etc.

In addition, the hospital is also a pioneer in receiving, transferring and strongly applying modern achievements and techniques of fetal medicine such as: chorionic villus biopsy, umbilical cord blood collection, puncture, amnioinfusion... to improve the effectiveness of prenatal diagnosis, helping to detect early abnormalities in children, thereby saving lives and treating fetuses and newborns.

Thanks to advances in fetal medicine and molecular genetics, many structural abnormalities and genetic disorders of the fetus can be diagnosed at a very early stage, in the first 3 months of pregnancy, helping to better intervene in treatment or if abortion is indicated, it can be performed at an early gestational age, the procedure will be gentler, somewhat easing the pain for the pregnant woman. Not only stopping at screening and diagnosing fetal abnormalities before birth, but now a number of diseases and fetal abnormalities have been successfully treated at the fetal stage...

Thereby, continuing to expand the scale of fetal medicine techniques such as: umbilical cord clamping, vascular anastomosis, fetal blood transfusion, fetal surgery, fetal heart intervention...; further improving the capacity and effectiveness in screening and diagnosing many fetal abnormalities and malformations quickly, which is of great significance in protecting the health of mothers and children, improving the rate of birth defects.
