Speaking at the program, journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Head of the AIMO Organizing Committee for the 2025-2026 school year, emphasized that organizing the Asian Mathematics Competition - AIMO not only has educational significance, but also contributes to fostering high-quality human resources for the country. Last school year, the Vietnamese team made a historic milestone at the AIMO International Finals in Tokyo, Japan, which gathered more than 20 participating countries and territories.

With 1 Championship, 10 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals and 4 Bronze Medals, the students not only achieved the highest results ever, but also ignited new faith and expectations for the journey of conquering knowledge in this year's season.
“AIMO is not only an exam, but also an opportunity for the young generation of Vietnam to affirm their intelligence, train their courage and equip themselves to become global citizens in the integration era,” said journalist Phung Cong Suong.
In recognition of the outstanding efforts of excellent students who won medals and prizes at the Asian Mathematics Competition 2025 International Finals in Tokyo, Japan, the Central Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union decided to award Certificates of Merit to 20 students; the Organizing Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 Korean students.

According to the Organizing Committee, this year's AIMO Competition for students from grades 2 to 12 is implemented according to a four-level interconnected roadmap, ensuring both open participation opportunities and screening students across the country to access international standard exams.

Candidates with high scores will be selected to continue to the Regional round: held in March 2026 in 3 regions North - Central - South in a direct form. This is the stage that not only tests math problem-solving ability but also trains exam manners, writing skills and concentration - important factors when taking national and international exams. The results of this round will determine the typical representatives to attend the National Final.
The National Finals are scheduled to take place before April 20, 2026, in Hanoi and/or Ho Chi Minh City, with the exam entirely in English. This is also the place to honor the best contestants of the season, and at the same time select the team representing Vietnam in the international finals.
Looking for high quality student resources
At the press conference, reporters from newspapers and television stations asked many questions and expressed interest in the contest.

Responding to the reporter's question about the fact that currently, the results of competitions like AIMO are not given priority points in the entrance exams for public schools, and what recommendations does the Organizing Committee have so that the results of international competitions like AIMO are more widely recognized, Mr. Dang Minh Tuan, lecturer at the University of Education, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the Asian Mathematics Arena - AIMO said: The competition is for students from grades 2-12 and is open to all public and private students to have the opportunity to participate fairly.
The recognition of results depends on the educational institutions. In fact, nowadays, private schools and universities also want to find high-quality students. With the prestige and quality of the competition, it is hoped that more and more agencies, including departments, branches, and especially universities, will recognize the efforts of students and have preferential point policies.
Consider the direct recruitment mechanism
Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, informed that last year, the unit recruited about 1,000 candidates who were considered talented. In this category, Hanoi University of Science and Technology pays great attention to science and technology exams, and has policies for students who have achieved good results in prestigious exams.

“In the coming time, we will continue to record comments and submit to the admissions board to pay attention to competitions like AIMO. In the near future, the unit may have a mechanism for direct admission or talent selection of candidates,” said Mr. Hai.
Maximum support for candidates
Mr. Bui Van Phuong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tien Phong Joint Stock Company, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest said, At this time, the Organizing Committee is ready to receive a large number of students registering. From now until December, there will be a preliminary round with 3 rounds of competition nationwide, to create opportunities for all candidates to participate in the contest.
“In this round, candidates will take the exam online and their data will be kept confidential at the highest level. At this point, we are ready to accept candidates’ registration,” said Mr. Phuong.

The Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee also informed that the preliminary round is completely free for candidates. Only candidates must pay the exam fee for the regional and national final rounds. However, students with difficult circumstances confirmed by their schools; students who have won medals and prizes in previous competitions will be exempted from paying the exam fee.
The sample test papers and documents are posted by the Organizing Committee on the Electronic Portal https://aimo.tienphong.vn/ for candidates to refer to. In particular, the types of questions have been solved and guided by Mr. Dang Minh Tuan, lecturer at the University of Education, Hanoi National University.
No pressure on students
Mr. Tuan also said that the test is built from basic knowledge, not riddles, not tests beyond the program. For example, 5th grade students do not have to learn 6th grade knowledge to do the test.
Some people say that school entrance exams are booming these days, we cannot judge other competitions, however, we affirm that AIMO is an intellectual playground, where students are inspired to be creative and practice mathematical thinking. Parents today are very wise in deciding whether to register their children for the exam or not to avoid unnecessary pressure. As for those who have registered, they have certainly considered whether there is pressure on their children or not.
Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Thanh Tung - Outstanding Young Vietnamese Face of 2022, in the field of Creative Scientific Research, emphasized that the learning path of each person is very long. Today's students have many opportunities, many playgrounds to try their hand at training, facing success as well as failure. Success in the academic path is very different, it creates confidence for them and this is the premise for future development. They will become young, talented people, the future of the country.
Associate Professor Tung told parents not to put pressure on their children when taking exams, but to consider them a playground to gain experience.
Good at math thanks to passion
Phan Thanh Huy, a 12th grade student at Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, who won the 2025 AIMO Championship in Japan, shared that he always thinks about studying math seriously and having passion and interest in difficult problems. When he encounters difficulties or challenges, he will still find a way to overcome them and solve them.

Huy’s simple secret is to be proactive in studying, spending a lot of time exploring online math forums for gifted students, and participating in math study groups. “In general, I find every way to be able to approach good math problems at different levels,” Huy said.
Intellectual playground, self-confidence training
Beauty Pham Thuy Duong - Ambassador of Tourism and Environment, Top 5 Miss Vietnam 2024 said that she wishes to accompany the activities in the AIMO competition. This is a playground of knowledge but not only trains talent, thinking but also trains courage and confidence for the children.

Top 5 Miss Vietnam 2024 wishes the students good health, strong spirit and courage to overcome the competition rounds with the best results.
Journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest, expressed his thanks to the parents who trusted and appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee both professionally and in organizing the contest. He hopes that parents will continue to be the support for their children in the process of learning and growing up. For students, to study effectively, they need passion and goals to aim for. While hobbies can be short-lived, passion will last and require great effort. Organizing the contest, we aim to make students love mathematics and inspire their passion.
“When sharing with the Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, we said: The students who achieved good results in the competition are seeds in the nursery of talents that need to continue to be nurtured to develop,” said Mr. Suong.
AIMO, founded by the Asian Mathematical Olympiad Committee in 2012, is one of the most prestigious English-language Math competitions in the region, with the participation of more than 20 countries and territories. Every year, over 150,000 students compete in this arena, thereby conquering thinking challenges, training their abilities and opening the door to integration. Vietnam officially joined AIMO in 2019. In just 6 years, Vietnamese students have won more than 220 international medals, affirming their increasingly solid position on the Asian intellectual map.
