(Dan Tri) - Flight tickets for the Lunar New Year are running out, some days even all business class tickets are sold out. Some direct flights are sold out, passengers have to take a round trip and spend 6-8 hours traveling.

No direct flights available, passengers have to take detours

As the Lunar New Year holiday approaches, the demand for flight tickets is getting hotter every day, even though domestic airlines are continuously adding more planes and increasing their supply capacity.

According to a survey by Dan Tri reporters, as early as January 21 (ie December 22 of the year of the Dragon), flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa, Pleiku, Vinh, Da Nang , Hue, Nha Trang... recorded a situation of sold out economy class tickets, even some days business class tickets were also sold out.

Specifically, flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, Thanh Hoa, and Pleiku are in the most stressful situation. According to a survey on Vietjet Air's ticketing system, tickets for the Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh route were sold out from January 23-25, while tickets for the Ho Chi Minh City - Thanh Hoa route were also sold out from January 22 to January 27.

Meanwhile, with Vietnam Airlines , flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa were also sold out from January 24 to January 26.

On the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route, tickets also sold out quickly. On January 25, Vietnam Airlines only had business class tickets with the cheapest price of 9.8 million VND.

Bamboo Airways also has only a few business class seats left with prices around 8.3 million VND. As for Vietjet Air, there are only late flights from 11pm with prices ranging from 2.8-4.1 million VND.

Meanwhile, in the opposite direction from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, the ticket prices announced by the airlines are significantly lower. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air have ticket prices of about 1-1.4 million VND, Bamboo Airways about 1.3 million VND and Vietravel Airlines about 1.5 million VND.

Notably, for the Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh route, direct flights are sold out, leaving passengers with the only option of flying via Hanoi. Travel time, including waiting time, can be up to 6-8 hours. Ticket prices are also very high, from 11.6 million VND for economy class and nearly 13.5 million VND for business class.

Similarly, the direct flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Pleiku on Vietnam Airlines is also sold out. Passengers have to accept a round trip via Hanoi, which takes at least 6-7 hours to travel. Ticket prices are also high at 12.8-14.4 million VND.

There are flights that depart late at night at 11pm and don’t land until 9am the next morning. This is in stark contrast to the normal direct flight time for this route, which is just over an hour.

After Tet, many flights to Ho Chi Minh City are quickly running out.

Flights to popular tourist destinations such as Hanoi - Quy Nhon and Hanoi - Phu Quoc also quickly sold out of economy class tickets due to sudden increase in demand.

Ticket prices are around 7 million VND for flights to Quy Nhon and over 8 million VND for flights to Phu Quoc. Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon on the same day are around 5 million VND by Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways.

At the end of Tet holiday, higher ticket prices appeared on flights from local areas to Ho Chi Minh City.

Meanwhile, in the opposite direction from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, Vietnam Airlines' ticket prices range from only 1.9 to 2.5 million VND, and Vietjet Air's are around 1.2 million VND.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has also directed airlines to increase flights on high-demand routes. The operation of night and off-peak flights has also been stepped up to reduce overcrowding. Passengers are encouraged to book tickets early and choose less crowded time slots to ensure tickets and a smooth trip.
