Petanque is internationally known as pétanque. Players stand in a circle with a diameter of 35 cm to 50 cm, which must be 1 meter from the end line and the side line.
Each team can be one, two or three players. If the team has one or two players, each player will hold three iron balls, if the team has three players, each player will hold two iron balls. After the draw, one team (or one opponent) will hold the small marble to throw first. The marble is considered valid when it is 6 to 10 meters away from the circle and 1 meter from the two longitudinal edges. After the opponent throws the marble forward, the remaining player has the first task of rolling his marble so that it is close to the marble.
When the ball is closest to the point ball, that person is considered to have won the opponent, the remaining person has the task of catching the opponent's ball and moving it somewhere else. Each person is given three balls to roll, if all three balls are rolled, the person with the ball closest to the point ball is considered to have won the point. The matches are up to 13 points.
Petanque is usually played on three different types of courts: clay courts, gravel courts and gravel courts (1x2). On average, players travel between 8 and 15 km per game - more than a player travels in a professional football match.
In Vietnam, petanque players are mainly concentrated in the south, such as Ho Chi Minh City, Soc Trang and Vung Tau. The Vietnamese team first participated in this sport at the 21st SEA Games.
