The Foreign Minister spoke by phone with the Syrian Foreign Minister, announcing a $600,000 donation to the Syrian people to help them overcome the consequences of the February earthquake.
Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held a phone call this afternoon with Foreign Minister and Syrian expatriate Faisal Al-Mikdad, also attended by President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Bui Thi Hoa, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further deepen the traditional friendship and cooperation with Syria. Vietnam always remembers and appreciates the Syrian people's assistance in the past struggle for national unification and in the current national construction.

To express the solidarity of the Vietnamese people with the Syrian people in the face of losses caused by the February earthquake in northern Syria, Minister Bui Thanh Son announced that the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee will continue to transfer the third round of donations worth 600,000 USD to the Syrian people, bringing the total amount of donations from the Vietnamese government and people to 900,000 USD.
Minister Faisal Al-Mikdad thanked Vietnam for its timely and humane support, emphasizing that the Syrian leadership and people attach great importance to their relations with Vietnam. The Minister affirmed that Syria always supports and wishes to learn from Vietnam's experience in national development and international integration.
The two Ministers discussed and agreed on orientations to promote cooperation between the two countries in the coming time in the fields of politics, diplomacy, and economics; and coordination and mutual support at multilateral organizations such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
