On the afternoon of September 12, the Information Technology Research, Consulting, Development and International Cooperation Department of the National Cyber Security Association (Information Technology Department), regarding the data incident at CIC, the unit received a number of questions and concerns from members.
According to the initial verification results, there are signs of cybercrime attacks and intrusions to steal personal data. Currently, the amount of data illegally appropriated is being continued to be counted and clarified.
Some members are concerned about whether data theft will affect the banking system, especially accounts and credit cards; is it necessary to lock the card or change the bank password to ensure safety?
Faced with this concern, Mr. Vu Ngoc Son (representative of the Technology Board of the National Cyber Security Association) affirmed that, through a preliminary assessment of the situation, Vietnam's banking and credit system is still safe, tightly protected and operating stably.
According to Mr. Son, people do not need to take measures such as locking cards, locking accounts, changing CVC/CVV codes or changing passwords as unofficial information on the internet. These actions do not help increase security, but on the contrary, can disrupt transactions and directly affect daily life.
Regarding the above incident, the National Cyber Security Association also warned of the risk of bad guys taking advantage of this event to impersonate banks and authorities to commit fraud, spread malware or appropriate users' information and assets.
"Bad guys can make fake calls or send fake messages to ask users to provide personal information, credit cards, CVV/CVC authentication codes, OTP security codes... Users should note that banks absolutely do not ask customers to perform these operations through unofficial channels," said the announcement of the National Cyber Security Association.
