Vu Lan - a complete season of filial piety

(Baohatinh.vn) - In a solemn and cozy atmosphere, the Vu Lan ceremony at pagodas in Ha Tinh was fully organized, preserving the inherent sacred spiritual values.

After storm No. 5, some items of Phuc Linh Pagoda (Ha Huy Tap Ward) were destroyed, the landscape of the campus was greatly affected. However, thanks to the cooperation of monks, nuns, Buddhists and local people, the pagoda was quickly restored in time to organize a meaningful Vu Lan season.



Many monks, nuns and Buddhists attended the Vu Lan ceremony at Phuc Linh Pagoda.

More than 1,000 Buddhists and visitors from near and far attended the ceremony with a sincere heart to Buddha and a wish to do good in the season of filial piety. Traditional rituals were conducted solemnly, in which the most touching was the "rose pinning" ritual - a symbol of sacred maternal and paternal love.

According to the ceremony, those who still have parents pinned a red rose on their lapel, and those who have lost their parents pinned a white one. In that emotional moment, many Buddhists were moved to tears, reminding each other to cherish every moment they had with their parents.

During Vu Lan season, the "Buddhist Youth" Club of Phuc Linh Pagoda had many meaningful volunteer activities.

Moved by the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le (Ha Huy Tap ward) shared: “Having a bright red rose pinned to my chest during the Vu Lan ceremony, I felt a surge of gratitude for my parents. At that moment, I vowed to always live up to my filial piety towards my parents as the Buddha taught.”

Along with the grand ceremony, the pagoda also launched a charity program to give gifts to Buddhists and people in difficult circumstances. The pagoda's "Buddhist Youth" Club also coordinated with the youth unions of local schools to launch a program to collect scrap metal to sell for money to cook and donate 850 meals to patients being treated at several hospitals.

Venerable Thich Vien Nhu - Deputy Head of the Provincial Buddhist Sangha Executive Committee, Abbot of Chan Tien Pagoda said: "This year's Vu Lan takes place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day September 2, so the pagoda has hung the national flag and Buddhist flag early as a way to express gratitude for the contributions of generations of ancestors to building and defending the country. During the ceremony, monks, nuns and Buddhists also pray for national peace and prosperity, a sustainable country and happiness for the people."

Vu Lan Festival was also solemnly organized by large pagodas such as Thanh Luong (Nghi Xuan commune), Phong Phan (Nghi Xuan commune), Con Son (Son Tien commune), Van Dai Phuc (Dan Hai commune) ..., attracting a large number of Buddhists and people to participate. Some pagodas affected by the storm had to reduce their scale, but instead, volunteer activities and donations were promoted, spreading the message of filial piety associated with gratitude and kindness.

Venerable Thich Chuc Giac - Head of the Propagation Committee, Executive Committee of the Provincial Buddhist Sangha - Abbot of Phuc Linh Pagoda expressed his opinion: “No matter how large the organization is, the core of the Vu Lan ceremony is still to remind each person to be filial to their parents, grateful to their ancestors, and love the community. Those precious spiritual values ​​of the Vu Lan ceremony have not changed for generations, because filial piety is not only the personal feelings of each family but also the source of national strength. When each person knows how to be grateful and filial to their parents, they will also know how to live more responsibly towards their homeland and country, and know how to spread kindness to the community. That is the meeting between Buddhist teachings and the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking" of the Vietnamese people, which is the fulcrum for society to become more and more sustainable and peaceful".

This year, Vu Lan at pagodas and Buddhist places of worship is a bit quieter, but in every respectful incense stick, every rose pinned on the lapel, every prayer or act of sharing with the community, the eternal filial piety is spread. It is this sincerity and simplicity that makes this year's Vu Lan season more profound yet still full and complete.
