Land 120,000 years without sunlight and air

According to Live Science , scientists discovered a land that had been without light for a long time. It existed in the sea waters of Antarctica. This land was accidentally found by scientists from the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) when they explored the mysterious marine ecosystem under the Antarctic shelf.

After analysis, scientists said that this land had not been exposed to light and air for 120,000 years. When a giant iceberg with the size of the US state of Delaware broke off, this land was "revealed".

“We knew nothing about this landmass, as it was covered by ice several hundred metres thick,” says Katrin Linse, a marine biologist at BAS. “Once we discovered it, we had to get there quickly before the underwater environment started to change it, especially as sunlight entered and new species began to colonise the landmass.”

Previously, scientists had hypothesized about the existence of alien-like life forms beneath the permafrost in Antarctica.

This hypothesis was established after they continuously found some strange creatures in Antarctica. Typically, the sea worm with strange shape and Antarctic ice fish have anticoagulants in their blood and body fluids.

They all amazed scientists with their ability to survive in one of the harshest conditions on Earth. Therefore, the possibility of animals appearing in the above land is very high.

It is known that this A-68 iceberg began to break away from the Antarctic shelf many decades ago. Small cracks appeared on its surface since the 1960s. The iceberg is estimated to weigh up to 1,000,000 tons.

By July 2017, it had completely broken away from the Antarctic shelf, drifted into the southern ocean and gradually melted to reveal a land mass of more than 5,800 square kilometers. This is also a place that has been confirmed to have not seen the sun for hundreds of thousands of years.
