Son Luong commune improves the quality of cultural life

About Son Luong commune, our first impression was the peaceful countryside space, spacious roads, and friendly people.

In recent years, Son Luong commune has promoted the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", associated with building new rural areas and preserving the cultural identity of ethnic groups. Thanks to the synchronous approach, the quality of people's cultural life has been constantly improved, contributing to creating a new look for the increasingly renewed countryside.

Coming to Son Luong commune, our first impression was the peaceful countryside space, spacious roads, friendly people. Every afternoon, at the village cultural houses, people gathered in large numbers for cultural and sports activities. The elderly sat and relaxed, chatting; young people and middle-aged people played volleyball and badminton; women danced folk dances, children played in front of the cultural house.

After merging the communes of Son Luong, Nam Muoi, Sung Do and Suoi Quyen, the new Son Luong commune has 23 villages, more than 2,200 households with over 12,000 people, over 97% of whom are ethnic minorities.

Due to the large area, many villages are far from the center, and economic conditions are still difficult, in order to improve the quality of building cultural life, the Steering Committee of the Movement "All people unite to build cultural life" of the commune has strengthened propaganda work through the loudspeaker system, village activities, and branch meetings so that people can clearly understand the meaning, rights and responsibilities when participating in building cultural life.

In addition to village meetings and thematic conferences, the commune also promotes the daily propaganda loudspeaker system; cadres and party members go to each household to mobilize and explain the meaning, benefits and responsibilities when participating in the movement.

Along with that, the commune actively propagates and widely disseminates to the people the criteria for recognizing cultural families. Puts the criteria for building cultural families into the village's covenants and conventions for people to seriously implement. At the same time, attaches the criteria for building cultural families to the content of movements such as: "Building a prosperous, equal, progressive, happy family", "Family of 5 no, 3 clean", practicing a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals...

The commune encourages residential areas to establish 14 art, physical education and sports clubs. Every year, it regularly organizes cultural and sports exchanges at the commune level and encourages villages to organize cultural and sports exchange programs for people to participate.

Focus on perfecting the system of cultural and sports facilities from commune to village. Currently, 100% of villages and hamlets in the commune have cultural houses and sports areas. The system of playgrounds, training grounds, and cultural and sports facilities are well managed and utilized, basically meeting the needs of meetings, entertainment, and daily activities of local people; 28% of the population and 22% of households participate in regular physical exercise and sports.

Thanks to the practical approach, up to now, the whole commune has had over 75% of households achieving the title of “Cultural Family”; over 60% of villages and hamlets have been recognized as “Cultural Villages”; over 80% of agencies, units and schools have met cultural standards. Village and hamlet conventions have been reviewed, supplemented and integrated with environmental protection, preservation of national identity and prevention of social evils.

Mr. Lo Van May (Ban Lam village) shared: “In the past, weddings and funerals were cumbersome and costly. Now, people do things more simply and civilly. Village roads are clean, there is no more littering. Every family is conscious of preserving the landscape and the common way of life.”

The movement to build a cultural life in Son Luong is being implemented in parallel with economic development. The commune has mobilized people to actively change the structure of crops and livestock, applying science and technology to improve productivity and product quality. Models of tea and cinnamon planting, concentrated livestock raising, and garden-pond-barn economy have been widely replicated. Thanks to that, the average income per capita in 2025 of the commune will reach over 30 million VND/year, the poverty rate will decrease from 75% in 2021 to 18.05% in 2025.

In the period of 2025 - 2030, Son Luong commune will continue to improve the quality of the titles "Cultural Family", "Cultural Village"; strive for 100% of villages to meet the "Cultural Village" standard; 100% of agencies and units to meet cultural standards. Continue to invest in and upgrade grassroots cultural institutions, expand sports grounds... to attract a large number of people to participate. Thereby contributing to improving health and strengthening solidarity in the community.
