The model of raising indigenous black pigs with green tea powder added to the feed ration at the household of Mr. Duong Van Hai's family and Dung Tan Trade and Tourism Center - Song Cong City, Thai Nguyen, deployed at the end of 2023, has initially shown results.

Applying the benefits of green tea to livestock farming, many households in Thai Nguyen province have boldly researched, tested and added starch from green tea leaves to the pig's diet. This application has brought about clear results on many pig herds.

According to many published studies, green tea contains many nutrients including: Polyphenols, polysaccharides, saponins, vitamins and minerals. The effects of green tea on pig farming at different ratios will have different impacts on growth ability and meat quality.

Supplementing green tea leaf powder into the diet of pigs can affect the essential amino acid ratio in pig muscle, with good quality muscle this ratio can reach 40%.

Initial results show that pigs raised on natural food supplemented with green tea help increase immunity, reduce common diseases in the digestive tract, and increase the quality of pork.

The family of Mr. Dang Van Ngu - Director of Green Livestock Cooperative (Pha Residential Group, Luong Son Ward, Song Cong City, Thai Nguyen Province) is one of the large-scale pig farming households in Song Cong City. He shared that, stemming from the need to bring consumers clean, safe and quality products without using antibiotics, he had the idea of finding a way to reduce the amount of antibiotics in food when it is brought to market.

For that reason, Mr. Ngu made a bold decision to not use antibiotics in livestock farming to increase the resistance of pigs. After 4 years of implementation, Mr. Ngu has now succeeded with this innovative method.

According to Mr. Ngu, when the city implemented this model, his family was very supportive. Although it has only been tested for nearly a month, he has seen some results, including healthier pigs and better digestive systems.

Not only that, using green tea powder as a supplement to pig feed also helps local people consume tea, because Song Cong is a place where this green tea material is available.

Mr. Ngo Quang Ba - Head of Economic Department of Song Cong City, said: This model, if replicated, will be one of the premises to increase the value of pork, reduce the use of antibiotics in pig farming in particular and the livestock industry in general, and at the same time increase the value of tea trees, contributing to building the brand of green tea pork - a new specialty in Thai Nguyen.

Like Mr. Ngu's family, Mr. Dung's family (Song Cong city, Thai Nguyen province) is also very interested in the pig farming model of adding green tea starch to pig feed.

According to Mr. Dung, the farm has two breeds of pigs: wild boar and man (native black pig) imported from Ham Yen (Tuyen Quang) and Thanh Son (Phu Tho). The main ingredients of the feed are still rice bran, corn bran, soybean powder but with the addition of green tea powder, ground from dried Tan Cuong tea leaves, mixed in a mixer, then fermented and cooked.

The characteristic of pigs fed green tea powder is fragrant, firm meat. Diners who have eaten it all feel the delicious taste. Currently, pigs raised by the traditional method using green tea powder of Mr. Dung's family are all brought into the family restaurant system. In addition, customers from far away can order slaughtering and delivery.
