Recently, Son Ha district has reviewed poor and near-poor households in the area that are in need of housing and compiled a list as a basis for support decisions.

The district also mobilized the participation of socio -political organizations in propaganda work, mobilizing community support to help poor and near-poor households build houses.

As a mountainous district with many difficulties, the number of households in need of housing support is large. In the period of 2021 - 2025, Son Ha district will take advantage of resources from the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas to eliminate temporary houses for nearly 1,180 poor households in the district.

In 2024, the whole district will continue to support 235 houses. Of which, poor households will be supported with a maximum of 40 million VND/household to build a house according to local customs and practices, ensuring 3 hard: hard foundation, hard frame - walls, hard roof.

One day at the end of the year, following local officials, we visited households that had just received support to build new houses in Son Ha district. The house of Mr. Dinh Van O, in Lang Rin village, Son Trung commune, had just been completed with a cost of over 100 million VND. Of which, the State supported 40 million VND, Mr. O borrowed another 40 million VND from the Social Policy Bank (CSXH), the rest was the family's savings.

Mr. O shared: My house used to have only a few planks and an old corrugated iron roof, very dilapidated. This Tet, my family will be living in a new house, I am very happy. From now on, I will focus on making a living to escape poverty.

Many houses of poor ethnic minority households in Son Ha district have been completed and they are cleaning up to move into their new homes to celebrate Tet.

It is known that in 2023, Son Ha district also supported the construction and repair of houses for nearly 200 poor households, with a budget of 8.8 billion VND. Thanks to the good organization of housing construction for ethnic minority people, helping poor households have safe and stable housing.

For example, Mr. Phan Ton's family in Son Linh commune is poor and unable to work, so the local authorities have chosen his family as a priority to support housing construction. Mr. Ton received 40 million VND in support, plus savings and loans, he was able to build a house worth over 100 million VND. "Previously, we lived in a dilapidated house, thanks to the government's support for my wife and I, I don't know what to say other than thank you for the local government's care and support," Mr. Ton shared.

Ms. Dinh Thi My's family in Son Giang commune also received support money to build a house from the National Target Program 1719. Previously, Ms. My's family lived in an old, temporary house. Her family was poor and had economic difficulties, so building a new house was very meaningful to her family. Ms. My emotionally said: I am happy to have a new house that is protected from the sun and rain, and I don't have to worry about getting wet anymore. Now my family only focuses on making a living, having money to send our children to school and to escape poverty.

According to Mr. Duong Ngoc Thach, Deputy Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Son Ha district, this is a very special program for people in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Implementing the program's project, the district has supported many disadvantaged households to have solid housing. Many houses have been built, some are being urgently implemented so that people can have a warm and happy Tet holiday.

“In addition to the State's support capital, beneficiaries can borrow capital according to Decree 28 of the Government from the Social Policy Bank. To help people access capital, the district has focused on propagating and widely disseminating documents regulating and guiding the implementation of capital lending for ethnic minority households with special difficulties. The locality has established an inspection and supervision team to check the implementation of the National Target Program 1719 in the district, including urging to speed up the progress of housing construction for people,” Mr. Thach added.
