NDO - Kymviet's small sewing workshop is quiet. There is only the clacking sound of sewing machines and the rustling of scraps of fabric. But it is from this strange "workshop" that special stuffed brocade dragons are created, ready for the upcoming Year of the Dragon.

Nestled in a small street in Ha Dong district ( Hanoi ), Kymviet garment factory is a workplace for the disabled community, the majority of whom are congenitally deaf. |

Mr. Pham Viet Hoai, CEO of Kymviet, is also a disabled person. He confided: The reason he founded this "silent" sewing factory is because he realized that the disabled community is still struggling to find jobs. |

As per tradition, as the traditional Lunar New Year approaches, the “unspeakable” tailors at Kymviet will produce a product symbolizing the new year’s mascot. This year, the main product is stuffed dragons. |

The most "special" dragon model displayed at Kymviet has an outer layer of silk and brocade, combined with many other traditional materials. To "create the shape", the design team researched and distilled traditional Dragon lines and motifs, then combined them together in a sophisticated way. |

The pearl inside the Dragon's mouth is gilded with gold, symbolizing the wish for luck and fortune. This Dragon model was also given by Kymviet to Princess Kiko during her official visit to Vietnam in September 2023. "Currently, this dragon is on display in the living room of the Japanese Royal Family. Through these handmade products, we hope that international friends will understand Vietnamese culture, the spirit and values of the Vietnamese people," said Mr. Hoai. |

This year, the deaf sewing workshop also launched a small-sized brocade dragon product to serve those in need. |

"We will start preparing the shape around June 2023. It will take a few days to complete a dragon," a worker in the workshop said in sign language. |

In addition to stuffed animals, this year, Mr. Hoai's sewing workshop also launched a watch product with the Dragon symbol based on the mascot embroidered on the Nguyen Dynasty's royal robe. All are printed and treated to be durable and not warped. |

"I myself am also a disabled person, I understand how difficult life is for the disabled community. Through these small products, we hope that society will look at disabled people from a different perspective," Mr. Hoai confided. |
