The meaning of English classes for children in border areas

With the desire to create a better English learning environment for children in rural and border areas, young people with a common heart of charity joined hands to organize the Border Bright project - Rays of light in the border area, with the first free English teaching activity for students in Hoa Hoi commune, Tay Ninh province during the summer. The meaningful lessons contributed to improving the knowledge and interest in learning English for many students here.

Lesson on patriotism

Recently, a group of young people in the Border Bright project organized an English lesson for primary and secondary school students in Hoa Hoi commune with the very meaningful topic "History written in blood - Learning to continue writing peace ".

The lesson combines basic English and historical storytelling to help students develop language skills and feel patriotism and national pride. Through the lesson, students can identify symbols of our country on the occasion of National Day September 2 in English such as the National Flag, parade, National Day, etc.

Lam Trong Nhan, a 12A2 student at Hoang Le Kha High School for the Gifted (Tan Ninh Ward, Tay Ninh Province), Head of the Organizing Committee of the Border Bright project, shared that he realized that there are many children in border areas who do not have the conditions to learn English, so he created this project to use his knowledge to help students gain more knowledge and foundation in English.

The project was implemented from July 7, 2025. Up to now, the class has 25 students registered to participate, including students from grades 3 to 6, of which 3 students (grades 7 and 10) have lost basic English. The class is implemented in 2 forms: online and offline.

With online learning, the class is divided into 5 groups, each group has 1 teaching assistant, a private volunteer; after each lesson, students are supported with homework and review of previous knowledge.

Volunteers guide students in learning English

“In the coming time, my friends and I will enroll in school. To maintain the class, we plan to organize online classes every Tuesday and Thursday. On Saturdays and Sundays, we will arrange to teach in person. After the course ends, the project hopes to expand to Tan Ninh ward, Tay Ninh province, and further to remote areas in the northern provinces,” Trong Nhan added.

Inspiring passion for learning English for children in border areas

With lively and creative teaching methods and perseverance in honing skills, members of the Project contribute to changing the way English is learned for students in rural areas, gradually building a solid English foundation.

Ms. Doan Thi Thuy Trang, teacher of Truong Quyen Primary School (Hoa Hoi commune) commented: "You are willing to learn and grasp teaching methods very well, know how to discuss in groups, review old lessons, form new knowledge, consolidate lessons, apply the 2018 education program, 4 steps of a teaching period. I see that you have carried out a teaching period almost like a real teacher, applying new methods to create excitement for students.

The students have made a lot of progress, pronouncing many words correctly. According to information from parents, after 2 weeks of studying this class, the children have a very positive learning spirit, whether studying online or directly, the children participate fully, absorbing the lessons effectively.

The efforts of the young people received much praise from parents and students in this border area, becoming anticipated lessons for many students.

Nguyen Ha Yen Ngoc, a student at Tran Phu Secondary School (Hoa Hoi Commune), said: “Before, I did not understand English, I lacked the basics, so I fell behind. Now that I study with you guys, I learn English better. I want to accompany you guys more.”

Enthusiastically sharing after the live lesson, Nguyen Cat Ky Duyen, a 4th grade student at Ngo Tat Son Primary School (Hoa Hoi commune) shared: "The teachers' teaching is very easy to understand, my English has improved a lot, I am very happy to be in this class."

Teachers and students from the border area of ​​Hoa Hoi commune took souvenir photos with young people from the Border Bright project.

The beautiful actions of the young people in the Border Bright project have created a memorable summer for students in the rural and border areas of Hoa Hoi. Not only contributing to improving foreign language skills, the lessons also help many children achieve their dreams in studying and developing themselves./.
