Request to check and monitor the organization of beauty and model contests

According to Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, performing arts activities have gradually become more organized, not only enriching the cultural and spiritual life of the people, but also providing practical and effective support in the country's socio -economic recovery, promoting the building of a healthy cultural environment.

However, besides the achieved results, the management and organization of some activities (beauty contests, model contests) still have limitations and inadequacies that have been mentioned and concerned by National Assembly delegates.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung pointed out the limitations and shortcomings of some beauty and model contests.

According to the document sent to the National Assembly delegations of provinces/cities under the Central Government, the head of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested specialized units to organize inspection teams to monitor the organization of beauty and model contests that take place in many rounds in many localities and in localities with many performing arts activities, proactively coordinate with relevant agencies to take appropriate and timely measures (deploy professional and technical solutions to remove and prevent...) for performing arts activities, beauty and model contests on cyberspace that violate the law.

The beauty contest organized by transgender beauty queen Huong Giang is being considered for handling because this activity has not been approved by the authorities.

The leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also requested the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, provinces and centrally-run cities to step up inspection, examination and monitoring of law enforcement in organizing activities, and handle or recommend strict handling according to regulations for organizations and individuals with violations.

Localities need to strengthen inspection and monitoring after issuing approval documents, resolutely stop beauty and model contests, direct the revocation of titles and awards, and cancel contest results in case of law violations.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested that National Assembly delegations of provinces and cities organize periodic or thematic monitoring activities on the management of performing arts activities in localities.

The leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and government agencies, within the scope of their tasks and powers, to coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to ensure the implementation of state management of performing arts activities.

The organizer of the "Miss Peace Vietnam" 2022 contest was fined 55 million VND for organizing a beauty contest without written approval.

The People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities shall strengthen the organization and implementation of state management of performing arts activities and the organization of beauty and model contests in the locality according to the provisions of Article 29 of Decree No. 144 of the Government, and be responsible before the Government for implementing state management of performing arts activities (beauty and model contests) in the locality according to decentralization.

"The People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities need to comprehensively review beauty and model contests in their localities that have been granted written approval, check the conditions to ensure, and resolutely stop or suspend contests that do not meet the requirements. Accordingly, localities need to check and review the purposes, objectives, and requirements of the contests to find the true beauty symbols, representing the intellectual and spiritual beauty of Vietnamese women, and decide on the number of contests to ensure quality and in accordance with regulations," Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized.
