The exhibition introduces 17 large-scale lacquer paintings by young artist Chu Nhat Quang (born in 1995). The paintings recreate historical stages from the August Revolution, the resistance war against France and the US to the renovation period, and at the same time depict the image of President Ho Chi Minh and the nation's aspiration for independence, freedom and peace .

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum, emphasized: “For the first time, a large-scale lacquer painting has been meticulously created by a young artist and displayed at the museum. This is a meaningful artistic activity, contributing to honoring history and evoking national pride.”

Author Chu Nhat Quang said it took him nearly 7 years to conceive and complete the series of paintings: “I want every detail to be closely related to history, from documentaries, pictures to witness memories. In addition, I also put the aesthetic element of painting on par with the other elements so that each work is both accurate and full of emotion.”

The largest work in the exhibition is 7.2m long and 2.4m high, with two paintings: one side depicts Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence; the other side depicts the scene of people joyfully celebrating the spring of freedom.

Commenting on the exhibition, artist Luong Xuan Doan, Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, shared: “The fact that a 9X artist is engaging in historical themes with traditional lacquer materials is a commendable choice. This can be considered a new page in contemporary Vietnamese fine arts.”
Journalist Ho Quang Loi, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, also shared: "The paintings in Independence Spring express national spirit, contributing to nurturing love of history and pride in Vietnam."

Painter Chu Nhat Quang (born in 1995) comes from an artistic family, graduated in the US and Australia, and is a representative of the young generation of painters dedicated to lacquer art. The author successfully organized the exhibition Sacred Marks (2024) at Thang Long Imperial Citadel.
This series of Independence Spring lacquer paintings demonstrates modern visual thinking, bringing a strong visual experience, while conveying patriotic, humanistic emotions and admiration for President Ho Chi Minh.
