8 tasks to solve environmental pollution in Ho Chi Minh City

According to the plan, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has set out 8 key tasks to prevent and resolve environmental pollution in the city.

Firstly, strengthen the work of perfecting institutions and responsibilities of authorities at all levels and leaders in directing the implementation of policies and laws on environmental protection. The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City assigned heads of departments, branches, sectors and Chairmen of People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones to seriously implement policies and laws on environmental protection in the management area; Review legal regulations to remove institutional bottlenecks, ensure timely and effective resolution of urgent environmental issues, especially environmental pollution in urban areas, craft villages, river basins and irrigation systems.

Second, promptly organize inspections of subjects showing signs of violating environmental laws and strictly handle violations.

Third, review, publicize the list and urge production facilities to complete the installation of automatic continuous environmental monitoring; publicize the content, progress and deadline for implementing environmental programs, projects and plans.

Fourth, proactively deploying an environmental camera system and an automatic, online water resources monitoring system. The City Police is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committees of communes, wards, special zones and related units to organize investment, installation and effective exploitation of security camera systems and surveillance cameras to detect and handle violations of environmental laws.

Fifth, handle and remedy pollution sources in polluted areas and facilities causing environmental pollution; support facilities causing environmental pollution to thoroughly handle pollution; promote green transformation investment in various fields, minimize waste recycling according to the circular economic model, and produce environmentally friendly products.

Sixth, the study proposes to increase environmental protection fees for wastewater or drainage and wastewater treatment service prices and have a mechanism to use this funding source mainly to invest in the construction and operation of centralized wastewater collection and treatment systems.

Seventh, concentrate maximum resources to accelerate the implementation of programs, projects, tasks and solutions on environmental protection to soon achieve the pollution control and remediation goals of the Environmental Pollution Reduction Program for the period 2020 - 2030, especially the goals and targets on water and air environment.

Eighth, strengthen propaganda of policies and laws on environmental protection, raise awareness and mobilize people to protect the environment.
