On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025), VNA correspondents in Beijing had an interview with Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh about the role of the Vietnam News Agency in the Vietnamese revolutionary press system as well as in Vietnam's foreign information work.
According to Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh, over 80 years of construction and development, VNA has fulfilled its role as a key press agency, providing strategic source information, accompanying the country in every historical milestone.
During the resistance war, News Agency reporters were present in the hottest and most arduous areas, recording images of our army and people fighting bravely and steadfastly.
Reporters also delved into the lives of the people in the liberated areas. Many photos and news reports from VNA at that time have become invaluable historical witnesses, bringing many touching emotions to people.
When peace was restored, VNA quickly transformed itself to meet new requirements. There were no more bombs and bullets, but the information front was still hot in the context of the country entering the process of innovation and international integration.
News broadcast by VNA honestly reflects aspects of the country's reconstruction, improving people's lives, while contributing to protecting sovereignty , affirming position and enhancing Vietnam's image in the international arena.
In the 100-year journey of Vietnam's revolutionary press, VNA has been one of the pioneering and persistent forces on the ideological and cultural front, playing a key role in providing official information, helping to strengthen social consensus and affirm national prestige in the international arena.

Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh emphasized that VNA today has truly matured and continuously developed, worthy of the stature of a national news agency, a key multimedia media agency, serving the propaganda requirements of the Party and State, the information needs of mass media agencies and the public both at home and abroad, ready to accompany the country into a new era.
Assessing the role of VNA in the country's foreign information work, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh said that Vietnam's foreign affairs work in recent times has achieved many important successes, contributing to enhancing the country's position and prestige in the international arena, and has been assessed by senior leaders as a "bright spot", achieving many achievements of historical significance.
Contributing to these achievements is the significant contribution of foreign information work, with the active, professional and systematic participation of the press force. Among them, it is necessary to mention VNA with its essential and important role as a national news agency, a large multimedia, multi-platform, multi-lingual media complex.
Positioned as the country's key foreign press agency, VNA has established a widespread network of permanent offices abroad, the largest among Vietnamese press agencies, with 30 permanent offices present on all five continents.
The information source from this resident agency system is very important, not only serving the domestic press but also being a channel to convey Vietnam's official information and messages to international friends.
Through dozens of information products and a system of diverse media platforms in many languages, VNA has effectively introduced the image of a peaceful, stable and dynamically developing Vietnam; at the same time, contributing to building an information bridge, enhancing mutual understanding between the Vietnamese people and the world , between the overseas Vietnamese community and the homeland.
The outstanding strength of VNA is its team of resident reporters who are knowledgeable about the area, have the ability to connect with a network of experts and scholars, and quickly grasp local public opinion on the situation in Vietnam and Vietnam's foreign relations, thereby providing a valuable source of information for reference in the process of planning foreign policies of the Party and State.
Regarding the role of the VNA's Beijing office in coordinating with the Embassy and other agencies to carry out propaganda work in the area, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh said that China is the only country in the world that fully meets the priority factors in Vietnam's foreign policy: neighboring country, big country, traditional friend, comprehensive strategic cooperative partner. Therefore, in recent years, high-level and all-level exchanges and contacts between the two countries have taken place regularly and vigorously.
In that context, the VNA Bureau in Beijing is one of the pioneering press agencies, always proactively coordinating closely with the Embassy and neighboring agencies to promptly report on important foreign affairs activities of the Party and State leaders, leaders of ministries, branches and localities of Vietnam in China as well as the rich and substantive cooperation achievements between the two countries in all fields; fully, vividly and objectively reflecting the positive development momentum of bilateral relations, contributing to enhancing understanding and connection between the people of the two countries, firmly consolidating the social foundation of Vietnam-China relations.
Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh assessed that with their professional style and sharp capabilities, the VNA reporters in Beijing play an important role as a bridge of information, contributing to promoting the effectiveness of Vietnam's foreign information work in a strategic location./.
