Adobe updates AI image creation feature for Photoshop

On May 23, Adobe announced that its leading image editing software Photoshop has been supplemented with AI image creation technology.

Adobe says this is the beginning of an “invasion” of AI technology into programs and applications for professional creators.

While programs like OpenAI's Dall-E have gained public attention by converting text prompts into images, they have yet to be widely used by some large corporations due to legal concerns surrounding the data used to train the systems.

To address these concerns, Adobe has launched a core technology system called “Firefly” – a platform built specifically with copyrighted image data that the company says can be legally used commercially.

Firefly was tested by Adobe for 6 weeks on an independent website, before announcing the inclusion of AI features based on this platform in the company's most popular photo editing software Photoshop.

A new feature called “Generative Fill” will allow users to replace the original image with computer-generated content based on text prompts. For example, a tree can be “magically” transformed into a forest.
