Dignity in AI Creativity

Social networks have been buzzing these past few days with the story of a female photographer who shared images created by her using AI (artificial intelligence) technology and photoshop software. It is worth mentioning that from the beginning, the female photographer did not clearly explain that the work was created by technology and not a selfie… The source of the controversy also started from here.

When the image was first shared, almost no one noticed the intervention of AI, many professional photographers continuously praised the artistic value of the photo. It was not until some technology experts pointed out that the photo had many elements of AI that the female author spoke up to admit and edit the photo caption.

This incident once again reminds us that, as the line between creative works of art and AI products is becoming more and more sophisticated, the issue of copyright is also placed in an overlapping and intertwined context... It can be seen that the core factor to untangle the problem is the attitude and self-respect of the creative practitioner, before arguing about any level or technology.

The application of AI in the creative practice is no longer an experiment, it has become a leading trend. Last March, Christie's auction house (headquartered in London, UK) held an auction of artworks created by AI, raising 728,784 USD, far exceeding expectations, although many artists had previously filed complaints, accusing AI of illegally exploiting original works.

The story of the role of AI in art is still a matter of debate. Many artists share the view that art is different from science , it does not always progress according to established standards of knowledge, it creates based on mistakes, from the imperfections of human nature, dominated by fickle emotions. It is created by the soul, which soulless machines do not have.

Art is also considered as the artist's journey of work, the creative process, not necessarily a specific work... Therefore, completely applying technology to the creative practice process, the final thing created is only a product, not a work!

With the development of digital life, social networks have also become an effective working channel for many industries. Owning a personal page with thousands of followers, likes, etc. is also an effective tool to make money and build a personal brand.

It can be seen that the images shared here are completely free from any constraints such as participating in a contest or exhibition… But people who have enough self-respect for themselves and their work will be clear in distinguishing between artwork or AI-assisted products.
