On the evening of May 12, Apax English Joint Stock Company (Apax Leaders) sent a notice to parents and students at the centers about the latest updates related to the reopening process of the centers and the progress of tuition refunds...
In the announcement, Apax Leaders said that it has improved its curriculum and completed the teacher recruitment process. "We would like to invite parents to send their children back to school at 33 centers nationwide," the document stated, attaching a specific list of facilities.
Latest announcement from Apax Leaders on May 12 to parents and students
Notably, among the 33 centers that Apax Leaders said have reopened, there are 3 centers in Ho Chi Minh City including Apax Him Lam (District 6), Apax Le Duc Tho (Go Vap District) and Apax Phan Xich Long (Phu Nhuan District).
However, on April 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that it had decided to suspend the operations of 40 Apax facilities in the city, including two centers: Apax Him Lam and Apax Le Duc Tho.
At that time, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that the Apax Leaders English system only had one center located on Phan Xich Long Street that was licensed to operate.
The education service information page of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City also updated the status of 41 Apax Leaders English centers. Up to now, 39 centers are still in a state of suspension of operation, one center located on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, Ward 2, District 3 has been dissolved.
Another issue that many parents are concerned about is the story of tuition refunds. Accordingly, Apax Leaders announced that it will "not handle any single withdrawal cases during the system consolidation phase". "This notice is sent to parents with the desire to bring their children back to the learning environment", the document explained.
Apax Leaders' office in Ho Chi Minh City supports parents' tuition refund requests, operating on April 22
Apax Leaders' announcement did not specifically mention when the system improvement phase would begin. Previously, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Apax Leaders, on April 9 affirmed at a meeting with parents in Ho Chi Minh City that Apax Leaders would divide parents into two groups to proceed with tuition refunds. Regarding the implementation method, Mr. Thuy promised to standardize the data on fees and remaining lessons, and personally contact each parent to confirm. The deadline for this entire process is May 31.
In recent times, Apax Leaders has always used the excuse of closing centers to "restructure", repeatedly promising and then postponing the deadline to repay billions of dong in tuition debt, making many parents angry. Previously, the Office of the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency in Ho Chi Minh City and the Economic Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police also received hundreds of complaints from parents against the Apax Leaders system.
