Poland accuses Russia of violating its airspace when it strikes Ukraine

The Polish Armed Forces on March 24 accused Russia of violating its airspace early that morning with a cruise missile launched from Russian territory at targets in western Ukraine.

In a statement, the Polish Armed Forces' Operations Command said that at 4:23 a.m. on March 24, one of the cruise missiles launched by Russian long-range aircraft earlier against targets in Western Ukraine violated Polish airspace.

The missile entered Polish airspace near the town of Oserdow in the Lubin Voivodeship for 39 seconds. The missile's entire journey through Polish airspace was recorded by Warsaw's military radar system.

Head of the Polish State Security Service Jacek Siewiera reported the incident to Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosinak-Kamysz at 5 a.m. the same day.

Poland also informed its NATO allies about the incident and took necessary measures to ensure airspace safety, including air force warnings, especially in southeastern Poland.

Earlier on the night of March 23 to the morning of March 24, the Lviv regional government in Western Ukraine reported a Russian cruise missile attack, believed to have been launched from a TU-95MS strategic bomber.
