Vietnamese doctors successfully treat and rehabilitate a Cambodian girl with a traumatic brain injury.

On August 8, information from City International Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) said that this unit had just treated and improved the motor function of a Cambodian girl after the sequelae of a serious traumatic brain injury.

According to Lao Dong newspaper, the patient is a doctor (Cambodian nationality) with a severe traumatic brain injury. According to medical records, nearly a month ago, a serious traffic accident suddenly occurred when S was driving an electric bicycle in his home country of Cambodia. The collision caused the patient to fall into a deep coma, seriously damaging many organs: a broken left collarbone, collapsed lungs, liver and kidney injuries, especially severe traumatic brain injury.

During the first 10 days in his home country, the child was ventilated via endotracheal tube, fed through a nasogastric tube, given blood transfusions and intensive care. Although he had passed the critical stage, the hope of recovery seemed far-fetched. The family had no choice but to bring the child to Vietnam to seek a chance of recovery at City International Hospital.

The patient was admitted to City International Hospital with severe central nervous system damage, liver and kidney damage that had not yet recovered, reduced muscle strength, and weak reflexes. The patient lost the ability to communicate and move, and was completely dependent on medical care.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Cam, Department of Pediatrics, City International Hospital, said that in addition to treating organ damage, doctors also have to activate each vital ability of the child, from active breathing, swallowing reflex, alertness, to emotions and perception.

After 10 days of treatment, the girl began to react to surrounding stimuli: her eyes moved, her hands moved slightly, then she began to eat a few spoonfuls of milk, kept breathing naturally, and made a few discrete sounds... After more than 2 weeks of treatment, the girl gradually recovered and was discharged from the hospital. However, according to the doctors, she will have to continue physical therapy at home, monitor neurological indicators, practice movement and learn to communicate...

It is known that Toun Sreynich's father is a teacher who has taught volunteer classes in Cambodia for many years. As soon as Toun Sreynich had an accident, many Cambodians joined hands to donate to support the child's treatment costs in Cambodia and Vietnam.
