According to the patient's family, NHP occasionally had nosebleeds since he was a child, but he only needed to raise his head to stop the bleeding. Recently, this condition has appeared more frequently, he had nosebleeds almost twice a day, and each time it recurred, the bleeding increased, making his family worried so they had to take him to the emergency room.
At the hospital, doctors quickly performed emergency treatment to stop the bleeding, then performed an ENT endoscopy on the patient. Through the endoscopy, the doctor discovered a large vascular tumor originating from the patient's right nasopharynx, spreading forward to cover almost the entire right nasal cavity.
Master, Doctor Tran Trong Phat, ENT specialist, Thuan My ITO Dong Nai Hospital said: "Nasopharyngeal fibroma has a vascular origin, which can easily cause massive bleeding. With a large, vascular tumor like this case, treatment requires interventional embolization using DSA (digital subtraction angiography) first, then safe surgery.
According to Dr. Tran Trong Phat, nasopharyngeal fibroma is a rare disease. Warning signs include: frequent nosebleeds, prolonged nasal congestion, tinnitus, headache. If not detected and treated promptly, the tumor can invade the nasal cavity, sinuses, skull base, eye socket, causing many dangerous complications such as: prolonged blood loss leading to anemia, weakness, even hemorrhagic shock; severe nasal congestion, sinusitis, bulging eyes, double vision, decreased vision, otitis media, paralysis of cranial nerves; meningitis, brain abscess.
After surgery, NHP patient recovered well and has no more nosebleeds.
