Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade said that in the first 8 months of 2025, export activities Goods have achieved positive results. Export turnover in 8 months is estimated at 306 billion USD, up 14.8% over the same period, reaching and exceeding the export growth target.
The average monthly export turnover reached 38.2 billion USD, of which July and August both reached over 42 billion USD, the highest monthly export turnover ever. Export turnover increased sharply in two groups of products: agricultural and aquatic products and the processing industry.
Specifically, the trade balance over the past 8 months is estimated to have a trade surplus of 14.0 billion USD. In particular, a trade balance with a moderate trade surplus can contribute to increasing foreign exchange reserves, stabilizing monetary policy, and contributing to sustainable import-export development in the medium and long term.
Despite positive results in the first 8 months of the year, it is forecasted that the last 4 months of 2025 will still face many difficulties and challenges for export activities. Factors such as trade wars, increasing trade protectionism and trade policy adjustments by major economies may affect export industries. The imposition of reciprocal tariffs by the United States on Vietnam and other countries is still unpredictable, affecting the production and export of a number of Vietnamese industries.
“The 12% export growth plan set at the beginning of 2025 is a high and challenging target. This plan requires an average monthly export of 37.9 billion USD/month,” the Deputy Minister informed.
In the first 8 months, the average monthly export turnover reached 38.2 billion USD. Therefore, to achieve the export growth plan of 12% for the whole year, in the last 4 months of the year, goods export needs to reach an average of about 37.2 billion USD/month.
“In the absence of any sudden major shocks, with the efforts of the business community and the support of the Government , relevant ministries and branches, goods exports are determined to achieve the set plan, increasing by 12% compared to 2024,” Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan affirmed.
Regarding solutions to promote exports in the final months of the year, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade continues to negotiate to promote balanced, stable, sustainable and effective trade relations with the United States.
At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade develops and implements a plan to implement reciprocal trade agreements with the United States; develops warning documents and recommendations for businesses and industry associations on appropriate response solutions to the US tariff policy for each key commodity group of Vietnam.
Next, the Ministry will promote and support businesses and industry associations to effectively exploit traditional markets with great potential; advise on negotiations and signing of trade agreements with new markets that have been approved.
In particular, the Ministry of Industry and Trade innovates and improves the effectiveness of support activities for businesses and industry associations in taking advantage of tariff incentives and meeting regulations on origin of goods in signed free trade agreements.
At the same time, the Ministry promotes and enhances the role of Vietnamese trade offices abroad in grasping information, promptly reflecting fluctuations in the world economy and new policies of host countries. In particular, warning and recommending appropriate response solutions to businesses and industry associations; assigning export promotion targets to trade offices.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade diversifies trade promotion forms, including import promotion activities to diversify raw material supply sources; strengthens early warning of risks and accompanies businesses when trade defense lawsuits arise; supports businesses in overcoming new trade barriers in import markets; supports training to improve the capacity of small and medium enterprises in branding, marketing, and international trade promotion skills.
