Due to the flood water receding, the canoe could not continue moving, so officers and soldiers of Ngu Thuy Border Guard Station had to wade through the water, taking turns carrying the old man 2km to the car to take him to the emergency room at night.
On October 31, Major Vo Doan Dung, Deputy Head of Ngu Thuy Border Guard Station ( Quang Binh Provincial Border Guard) confirmed that the unit had just supported the evacuation of a patient from Le Thuy District General Hospital through floodwaters for emergency treatment at night.
Previously, at 8:30 p.m. on October 30, the working group of Ngu Thuy Border Guard Station received a request from Le Thuy District General Hospital to support the transfer of a patient to a higher level for emergency treatment.
The patient is Mr. Do Trong Luc, 81 years old, residing in Xuan Giang village, Kien Giang town. At that time, the roads around the hospital were still flooded, so the working group used a canoe to approach.
However, because the floodwaters on the road receded quite quickly, the canoe had to stop at a location far from the ambulance parking lot on Highway 1, so the officers and soldiers of the border working group had to take turns carrying the patient, walking about 2km.
Afterwards, Mr. Luc was taken by car to the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi for treatment.
It is known that by the morning of the same day, floodwaters had receded from most residential areas in Le Thuy, with only a few locations still flooded but at low levels. Many roads in the area have also returned to normal traffic.
