Ministry of Transport approves the task of planning Ca Mau Airport

On February 16, according to Thanh Nien reporter's source, the Ministry of Transport has just signed a decision approving the task of planning Ca Mau Airport for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. The planning deadline is 2024.

Ministry of Transport approves the task of planning Ca Mau Airport

The main contents of the planning task include: surveying, investigating, and collecting necessary data for planning work; investigating and collecting past and current data of Ca Mau Airport; updating projects that have been and are being implemented at the Airport; forecasting transportation demand through the port; evaluating the capacity and planning options for the Airport, including the airport and civil aviation area as well as other related contents.

The task of planning Ca Mau Airport must also determine the nature, role, and scale of the port, along with basic land indicators for the planning period and technical infrastructure; determine environmental protection requirements and other requirements appropriate to the port's development goals.

The Ministry of Transport assigned the People's Committee of Ca Mau province to organize the selection of consultants to plan Ca Mau Airport according to the provisions of law, take responsibility for the selection results; ensure that the selected consultants meet the conditions on professional capacity as prescribed in Article 17 of Decree No. 05/2021/ND-CP dated January 25, 2021 of the Government on management and exploitation of airports.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is responsible for closely coordinating with the People's Committee of Ca Mau province and relevant agencies and units in the process of organizing planning, guiding the development and completion of sponsored products; is responsible for receiving sponsored products which are planning documents; is responsible for implementing the tasks of the planning agency after receiving the products, submitting them to the Ministry of Transport for appraisal and approval according to regulations.

According to the master plan for the development of the national airport system, by 2030, Ca Mau Airport will be a 4C airport with a capacity of 1 million passengers/year; by 2050, it will be a 4C airport with a capacity of 3 million passengers/year. At the same time, the existing infrastructure of Ca Mau Airport will be developed to the maximum efficiency to ensure that it meets transportation needs, reasonably connects with other modes of transportation; closely combines with ensuring national defense - security, and safe exploitation...

Ca Mau Airport is a 4C-class airport, with a 2-level passenger terminal with a capacity of 200,000 passengers/year, a runway measuring 1,500m x 30m, ensuring the operation of ATR72 aircraft or equivalent. Currently, Ca Mau Airport is operated by VASCO with only 1 flight route, Ca Mau - Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa, with a frequency of 4 flights/week using ATR72 aircraft.
