Overview of Vietnamese box office in recent days, Exhuma: Tomb of the Ghost took the top spot in daily revenue with only pre-booked tickets, Kung Fu Panda 4 and Dune 2 ranked second and third respectively.

Dune 2 only earned 31 billion after 2 weeks of release, a fairly small number compared to a "blockbuster" movie.

The highlight of Dune 2 is that the movie is extremely outstanding at IMAX theaters when almost all screenings are full of the best seats.

Observations show that IMAX systems only reserve positions on the sides or too close to the screen because viewing this format at these positions often does not give the audience a good experience.

Meanwhile, the DreamWorks animation studio's Kung Fu Panda 4 was released on March 8 and quickly became a box office hit when it achieved the record of the animated film with the highest number of pre-sold tickets in Vietnam's history (according to Box Office Vietnam data).

Currently, Kung Fu Panda 4 still has an impressive total revenue of 68.7 billion VND after the weekend.

Exhuma, Korean horror film makes a strong comeback

However, the panda quickly "cooled down" after less than a week of release. Currently, the No. 1 position in daily revenue of Kung Fu Panda 4 was suddenly "dethroned" by the new horror film from Korea - Exhuma: Tomb Raider.

It is worth noting that the movie Exhuma: Tomb of the Ghost has not yet officially premiered.

According to the release schedule, the film will officially premiere tomorrow, March 15. The film's current revenue on Box Office Vietnam is from early screenings and pre-booked tickets.

Specifically, according to Box Office Vietnam data, in just two days, March 12 and 13, Exhuma: Ghost Tomb Digging had nearly 100,000 pre-booked tickets.

Audiences commented on CGV Cinemas Vietnam's Facebook page that they wanted to go to the cinema early but the tickets were sold out, even the screenings during business hours were full.

This is quite a surprising sign when Korean movies and horror movies have achieved very little success in the Vietnamese market recently.

There are Korean blockbusters that invested tens of billions of dong like Alienoid 2 which only earned a mere 4.7 billion dong at the Vietnamese box office, or European and American horror films like Marita: Soul-Snatching Woman, Night Swimming, Ghost Replaces Head... which also failed in revenue.

In its home country, Exhuma broke the Korean box office in February with 8 million tickets sold after just 18 days of release, becoming the highest-grossing horror film in Korean history.

Explaining the appeal of Exhuma, Korean film critics praised the methodical production, beautiful camera angles, harmonious acting of the actors and the unique way of exploiting old motifs. Meanwhile, Korean audiences are fascinated by the top actors such as Lee Do Hyun, Kim Go Eun, Yoo Hae Jin and Choi Min Sik.

All these factors make the movie's word-of-mouth effect very strong, many Korean movie fans in Vietnam have also been waiting for the movie to arrive for a long time.

In addition to the above factors, it must also be mentioned that at that time, few world cinemas could compete with Exhuma , similar to the case of Mai in Vietnam.

Theaters also expect Exhuma to become the highest-grossing Korean film in Vietnam, taking the throne from Suddenly Winning the Lottery with 150 billion VND.
