Four airports temporarily closed to respond to storm Bualoi

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just directed relevant units in the aviation industry to proactively respond to storm No. 10 (international name Bualoi), including the decision to temporarily close 4 airports in the Central region.

Specifically, Dong Hoi Airport (Quang Tri province) stopped receiving aircraft from 13:00 to 22:00 on September 28; Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa province) stopped receiving aircraft from 22:00 on September 28 to 7:00 on September 29. Phu Bai International Airport (Hue city) stopped receiving aircraft from 8:00 to 14:00 on September 28; Da Nang International Airport stopped receiving aircraft from 6:00 to 11:00 on September 28.

The leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that according to information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and the Aviation Meteorological Center, the center of storm No. 10 at 4:00 a.m. on September 27 was at about 14 degrees North latitude; 116.6 degrees East longitude, about 580km East Southeast of Hoang Sa special zone. The strongest wind near the center of the storm is level 11-12, gusting to level 15. Moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of 35-40km/h.

This is a very fast moving storm (nearly twice the average speed), with strong storm intensity and a wide range of influence, which can cause combined impacts of many types of natural disasters such as strong winds, heavy rains, floods, flash floods, landslides and coastal flooding," the leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam assessed.

Forecast from the next 24 to 36 hours, the storm will move to the West Northwest, speed of 25km/h, position about 17.4 degrees North latitude; 107.6 degrees East longitude on the sea from Ha Tinh - Hue City; about 160km East Southeast of the North of Quang Tri, level 12-13 strength, gust level 16.

It is forecasted that in the next 36 to 48 hours, the storm will continue to move in the West Northwest direction, at a speed of 20-25km/h, located at about 18.5 degrees North latitude; 105.5 degrees East longitude on the mainland from South Nghe An to North Quang Tri, with strength of level 8-9, gusting to level 11.

It is forecasted that in the next 48 to 72 hours, the storm will continue to move in the West Northwest direction, at a speed of 20-25km/h, and gradually weaken into a low pressure area, located at about 20.8 degrees North latitude; 101.1 degrees East longitude in the Upper Laos region, with a strength below level 6.

The airports forecast to be directly affected by storm No. 10 include Tho Xuan Airport, Vinh Airport, and Dong Hoi Airport. In particular, Phu Bai International Airport in Da Nang is expected to be affected by early gusts of wind caused by the storm's circulation.

In addition, Noi Bai, Van Don, Cat Bi International Airports and Chu Lai Airport proactively update information to take precautions when the storm has unusual developments.

In that situation, to proactively respond to storm No. 10, ensure safety of flights, people and property at airports, and minimize negative impacts on flight operations, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires agencies and units to organize 24/7 duty; strictly implement storm and tropical depression response procedures in civil aviation activities.

The Civil Aviation Authority also noted that after the storm weakened and made landfall, there was a risk of rain after the storm. The Civil Aviation Authority requested the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) to direct aviation meteorological service providers to strengthen the work of ensuring the quality of meteorological information; continuously monitor the weather situation in the area of ​​responsibility, update forecasts and warnings; provide timely and complete monitoring, forecasting and warning information to users.

Airlines and flight operations service providers must strengthen coordination; closely monitor the developments of storm No. 10 to have plans to adjust flight plans or change flight schedules accordingly and ensure flight safety; fully update meteorological information from relevant aviation meteorological agencies and, based on the actual situation, deploy necessary response actions, minimize impacts on operations, ensure flight safety, and protect people and assets of the unit from natural disasters.

Also on the evening of September 27, Vietnam Airlines also announced adjustments to take-off and landing times for a series of flights due to the impact of storm No. 10.

Specifically, on September 28, flight VN1597 from Hanoi to Dong Hoi and flight VN1404 from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Hoi will have their departure times adjusted earlier, both at 5:30 a.m. on the same day; flight VN1590 from Dong Hoi to Hanoi will take off at 7:10 a.m. on the same day; flight VN1405 from Dong Hoi to Ho Chi Minh City will take off at 7:45 a.m. on the same day.

In addition, on the same day, September 28, flight VN7270 from Ho Chi Minh City to Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa) had its take-off time adjusted to 7:00 a.m. and flight VN7271 from Tho Xuan to Ho Chi Minh City had its take-off time adjusted to 9:25 a.m. on the same day.

Additionally, on September 28, Vietnam Airlines will cancel flights to and from Phu Bai Airport (Hue). The airline will also temporarily suspend flights to and from Da Nang International Airport until 12:00 on September 28.

During this same period, a number of other domestic and international flights may be affected by the storm's impact.

Vietnam Airlines Group recommends that passengers fasten their seat belts throughout the flight, especially in complex weather conditions. Actively fastening seat belts, even when the signal light is off, is an important measure to help minimize risks when the plane encounters air turbulence.
