Vietnamese women's volleyball team beware of the risk of relegation

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team faces a challenge when they have to face Germany at the Women's Volleyball World Championship at 5:00 p.m. on August 25.

Currently, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is ranked 22nd in the world with 155.78 points. In the opening match against Poland, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team lost 1-3.

Only 1 set win in that match helped them avoid being relegated too much. Specifically, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was only deducted 0.01 points and continued to rank 22nd in the world. The reason is because Poland ranked 3rd in the world, the gap is quite far so the Southeast Asian team was only deducted a few points.

But against Germany, the problem will be much more difficult when this team is ranked 11th and has 250.10 points.

The gap between the two teams is still quite far, but not far enough to help the Vietnamese women's volleyball team avoid being deducted too many points. Specifically, the number of points that can be deducted is 6.26 points (in case of losing 0-3), 3.14 points (losing 1-3) and 0.01 points (losing 2-3).

So the points of the Vietnamese team in case of loss will be 149.52, 152.64 and 155.77 respectively. If they win, they will be awarded 18.74 points, 15.61 points and 12.39 points respectively. Then the Vietnamese team will not need to worry about being overtaken. They even have a chance to enter the world's top 20 for the first time in history. But that is a very unlikely scenario.

Currently, the team ranked 23rd in the world is Mexico with 150.54 points. On August 25, this team will face the team ranked 10th in the world, Dominican Republic. Of course, in case of a surprise, Mexico will get a lot of points and have the opportunity to surpass Vietnam.

But if they lose 2-3 and are only deducted 0.01 points, this team still has 150.53 points. They will definitely be better than Vietnam in case they lose 0-3 to Germany and only have 149.52 points. And if Mexico loses with other scores, they will be deducted from 2.54 - 5.66 points. Then the positions of the two teams will be almost unaffected.

Therefore, to avoid losing their position, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team needs to try to win at least 1 set against Germany. At the same time, we also need to hope that Mexico can only win at most 1 set against the Dominican Republic.
