Foreign tourists, including Caleb and Klaudia, share about avocado coffee on TikTok - Screenshot
The reason for being “afraid” is because for many foreign tourists, avocado is a fruit that is often used to make savory dishes, but they do not eat it like Vietnamese people, which is to make avocado smoothies or avocado mixed with milk, which is delicious and irresistible.
Knowing that in Vietnam, avocado is used to make sweets already surprised them, now combining it with coffee is truly a curious dish.
"True love" butter coffee
Klaudia, a Polish tourist who has been living in Da Nang for the past few months and has a YouTube channel called Nomadic Klaudia to document her life in Vietnam, shared with Tuoi Tre Online that in Europe she only drinks Arabica coffee. So when she tried a cup of black Robusta coffee in Vietnam, she was shocked and did not like it at first.
However, she did not give up and tried many types from salt coffee, egg coffee, to coconut coffee and found her "true love" which is butter coffee.

“I love avocado, but I never imagined that it could be mixed with coffee and turned into a sweet treat. Before coming to Vietnam, I had never heard of avocado coffee, so it was a pleasant surprise,” said Klaudia.
She said she learned about this dish while surfing social media and watching YouTube and saw many tourists recommending that they definitely try this dish when coming to Vietnam.
“The taste really surprised me. It reminded me of the avocado ice cream I used to have, but with a stronger kick thanks to the robusta coffee.
To me, it’s like a sweet, creamy dessert, balanced by a strong coffee flavor. If you like avocado, you’ll definitely love this drink, as it combines the freshness of avocado with the strength of Vietnamese coffee in a very unique way,” Klaudia describes.
When Klaudia shared a video of this drink on her TikTok channel @nomadicklaudia, she received many positive responses.

According to her, avocado coffee has the potential to become as famous as egg coffee or iced milk coffee, especially with tourists, thanks to the eye-catching green color of avocado and its unique flavor.
She didn't think this coffee would become a daily habit for locals, as it resembles a dessert combining avocado smoothie and coffee, but for tourists, it has all the elements to become an iconic drink: unique, delicious and unforgettable.
According to the writer's research, avocado coffee is not an "exclusive" dish only available in Vietnam, because in countries that are used to using avocado as a sweet dish like Indonesia, there are also similar variations.
However, thanks to the reputation of Vietnamese coffee culture, butter coffee is passed on by word of mouth among tourists as an interesting discovery, adding a new flavor to the coffee experience during their Vietnam travel journey.
For Klaudia, Vietnamese coffee is a journey of discovery: if she usually only drinks black Americano without sugar or milk, the creative variations here are like small gifts for her to reward herself from time to time.
“That's one of the things I love about Vietnam - the rich and always surprising coffee culture,” she shares.

Curious to try butter coffee and "hooked"
Searching with the keyword “avocado coffee Vietnam” on TikTok will reveal a series of videos of foreign tourists sharing their experiences with this drink, attracting many likes and comments.
Among them is Caleb, 21, a Canadian travel blogger with the TikTok channel @journeywithcaleb.

According to him, this dish tastes like an avocado smoothie, very smooth and creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness, blended with the rich flavor of coffee.
Besides butter coffee, he also praised another "strange" dish, banana coffee.
“Both are similar to smoothies, with a sweet and creamy taste, combined with a strong coffee flavor, creating a very unique experience. Honestly, I quite like it and this is definitely something you should try when coming to Vietnam!”, he said.
In the comments section of avocado coffee videos online, many tourists expressed their delight at this unique flavor combination.
Some people even recommend foreign guests try sapodilla coffee - a drink not too unfamiliar to Vietnamese people at smoothie stalls.
However, according to Caleb, he thinks that smoothies can bring an interesting feeling but it is difficult to "dethrone" other famous coffees such as milk coffee, egg coffee, coconut coffee...
“Vietnam has some of the best coffee I’ve ever had! Salted coffee is just the right amount of sweet and fatty, milk coffee is another great option, even black coffee has a hint of smoky tiramisu, coconut coffee is truly a class of its own, and finally egg coffee - a must-try,” he rattled off.
