The Northern mountainous region is entering the peak of the rainy season, landslides and rockfalls are occurring continuously, causing tourists and bus and truck drivers to be constantly worried on the roads.

This morning, August 21, in Khe Sanh area, Sop Cop commune ( Son La province), people discovered that rocks and soil from a high, almost vertical cliff (positive slope) had signs of collapsing, causing vehicles to not dare to pass. After only a few minutes, a large piece of rock fell onto National Highway 4G, creating a lot of dust.

According to the Sop Cop Traffic Police Team, prolonged heavy rains have made the road surface slippery, causing many landslides to appear, the most serious of which is at Km111 National Highway 4G. The incident has disrupted traffic from Sop Cop commune to the center of Son La province and vice versa, affecting a series of passenger buses, trucks and tourist routes.

The scene is being blocked off by authorities, but the large amount of rock and soil and the continued rain are making recovery work difficult.

Authorities recommend that people and drivers choose other routes, avoid entering dangerous areas and strictly comply with traffic regulations.

Previously, at around 9:30 a.m. on August 20, in Lai Chau province, a large rock suddenly fell from the embankment onto the asphalt road at Km73+100 of National Highway 4D (section passing through Ban Chu Va 12, Binh Lu commune), blocking the entire lane in the direction of Lai Chau - Sa Pa (Lao Cai province), causing many vehicles to be congested during rush hour.

Traffic Police Team No. 2 of Lai Chau Provincial Police quickly arrived, organized traffic flow, placed warning signs and coordinated to clear the rocks to ensure smooth roads.

At around 5:00 a.m. on August 19, in Dien Bien province, a serious landslide occurred at Km22, Provincial Road 143 (DT.143), passing through Phu Long village (Pu Nhi commune), completely paralyzing the vital road connecting Pu Nhi commune with Na Son commune. On the afternoon of August 20, the landslide continued to appear here. Local authorities issued an urgent warning, asking people not to enter the landslide area and to proactively choose another safe route.

According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), on the evening of August 19, in Na Pe village, Bang Mac commune (Lang Son province), a landslide with a volume of about 150m³ occurred. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the risk of further landslides still exists.

Local authorities have mobilized forces to cordon off the dangerous area and urgently evacuated four households from the high-risk area.
