Military schools increase IELTS admission score to 5.5

The Military Admissions Board of the Ministry of National Defense has just issued guidelines for direct admission and priority admission of excellent high school students to regular military universities and colleges in 2023.

With the admission method combining academic records, in addition to the criteria of being an excellent high school student, graduating from high school in 2023, achieving good academic performance, good conduct in grades 10, 11 and semester 1 of grade 12. At the same time, candidates must meet one of the following conditions:

One, have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 55 or higher (previous year the minimum scores were 5.0 and 50 respectively).

Two, have an SAT score of 1,068 or higher or an ACT average score of 18 or higher. This is a new requirement in military recruitment this year.

Three, have a Russian language certificate TRKI2 or higher when applying for admission to the Russian Language major at the Academy of Military Sciences.

Four, achieve HSK4 Chinese certificate or higher when applying for admission to the Chinese Language major at the Academy of Military Science .

In 2015, if considering admission based on academic records combined with awards, candidates must have won first, second, or third prizes in provincial high school competitions. Candidates who have not graduated from high school can reserve their results until the end of their graduation year. In the years after graduation, the awards are no longer valid for admission.

This year, the military school block continues to conduct direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. Candidates eligible for direct admission are the following: Labor heroes, People's Armed Forces heroes, national emulation fighters who graduated from high school; first, second, and third prizes in excellent student competitions or national and international science and technology competitions.

In addition, candidates from ethnic minorities with very few people or from 20 poor border and island districts in the Southwest region, who meet the requirements of conduct and academic performance according to the regulations of the Ministry of National Defense, are also admitted directly to military schools.

Candidates who are eligible for direct admission but do not use this right will be given priority in admission to their desired majors. In addition, candidates who win consolation prizes in national competitions for excellent students and fourth prizes in national science and technology competitions will also be given priority in admission.

The Ministry of National Defense Admissions Board notes that candidates who register for direct admission, priority admission, and admission combined with academic records must still undergo a preliminary selection and meet the admission standards in terms of politics, ethics, culture, age, and health according to the regulations of the Ministry of National Defense. Candidates need to prepare 2 sets of documents: Preliminary selection and admission.

According to regulations of the Ministry of National Defense, no later than June 25, candidates need to register for admission and complete preliminary application documents at the Military Admissions Board at the district level where they register their permanent residence.

This year, military schools recruit about 4,300 university students. However, only 4 schools and academies recruit female candidates, including: Military Technical Academy (20 students); Military Medical Academy (32 students, majors in Medicine and Pharmacy); Military Science Academy (8 students, majors in English, Russian, Chinese and International Relations); Logistics Academy (4 students).

For the military sector, when registering for admission, candidates must place their first choice (highest choice) in a military school right from the initial application. If the school has many training majors, candidates can only register for one major. For the remaining wishes, candidates register for schools outside the military, the registration is carried out according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
