Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that the hospital has comprehensively deployed medical plans to serve the celebration, parade, and march to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2.

He also said that when participating in crowded events and standing for long periods in unpredictable sunny and rainy weather, people may face health risks and need to know how to prevent and handle them.

Fainting due to standing for a long time, fatigue

This condition is very likely to occur due to people sitting or standing for long periods of time, or getting tired after being outdoors for several dozen hours. At this time, blood circulation is poor, with the risk of postural hypotension leading to fainting.

To prevent this, people should avoid standing in one place for too long. They should occasionally stretch their legs, walk gently (if space allows), or stand up and walk gently in place.

People with a history of low blood pressure should eat well.

When you see someone faint, quickly help the person lie down in an open space, raise their legs to increase blood flow to the brain. Loosen their clothes. Call for assistance from medical staff or local security.

Hypoglycemia

This is also a common situation, caused by people going hungry or skipping meals when leaving early.

Symptoms of hypoglycemia include: sweating, tremors, weakness, dizziness.

Prevention: Eat a full breakfast. Bring some candy, cookies, and soft drinks to eat if you feel hungry.

If you see someone nearby showing signs of hypoglycemia, immediately give them a glass of sugar water, soft drink, or candy, let them rest, and call for medical assistance.

Allergy, difficulty breathing

Masks not only protect against the sun but also help limit fine dust and respiratory allergens. People with allergies or asthma should carry inhalers with them.

Protect against colds and flu caused by rain and weather changes

Hanoi weather on September 1st is sometimes showery, sometimes sunny. Getting wet due to sudden rain, sitting or standing for a long time in a humid, cold space can easily lead to hypothermia and catching a cold.

Symptoms: Tremors, pale skin or goosebumps, pale lips, fatigue, sneezing, runny nose. More severe cases may include lethargy, slurred speech, slow breathing, and impaired consciousness (signs of hypothermia).

Prevention:

Always carry an umbrella, raincoat, or compact waterproof jacket. Prioritize wearing breathable but quick-drying clothes, avoid wearing thick cotton clothes that easily absorb water and take a long time to dry.

Bring a small towel or tissue to dry yourself quickly if you get wet.

When someone catches a cold, they should quickly move to a dry shelter, away from drafts. Immediately remove wet clothes and replace them with dry ones if they are carrying them. Use a dry towel to dry the person thoroughly.

If you feel cold, immediately wrap yourself up in a blanket, thick coat or several layers of thin clothing. Immediately drink a glass of warm water, warm ginger tea or warm sugar water to warm your body from the inside.

Closely monitor the condition. If the patient stops shivering but shows signs of lethargy or unusual fatigue, call 115 immediately because it could be a sign of severe hypothermia.

"The weather in Hanoi can change suddenly. A shower can cause the temperature to drop rapidly. Preparing a raincoat and a spare set of dry clothes in your backpack is extremely necessary, especially for the elderly and children, who are very susceptible to colds.

Besides, you should bring enough drinking water, ginger tea, suitable clothes and some snacks.

Listen to your body. If you feel tired or dizzy, you need to find a way to rest immediately and ask for help from people around you or security and medical forces at the duty station," Associate Professor Co noted.

To be ready to ensure medical work, Bach Mai Hospital has established mobile medical teams and arranged strategic duty points with full human resources and equipment.
