For more than 20 years, the natural forest in the inner city of Cao Dai Tay Ninh Holy See has been home to a troop of monkeys, bringing joy to locals and tourists but also posing many potential dangers.

From a few dozen individuals at first, the monkeys have now increased in number to hundreds. Every day, the monkeys often climb out of the fence to play with tourists and look for food. Many local people also regularly bring their children to play with the monkeys.

Mr. Tran Van Thanh (residing in Ninh Thanh ward, Tay Ninh province) said: "In the afternoon, I often take my grandchildren here to play. They also bring rambutan and ripe bananas for the monkeys to eat." Some kind-hearted people also sponsor food for the monkeys.

Every day, Ms. Nguyen Kim Phung (residing in Tan Ninh ward) uses a motorbike to transport dozens of kilograms of fruit into the garden to feed the monkeys. Ms. Phung said: "More than 10 years ago, one time I came here to visit and saw that the monkeys were hungry, so I took out some money to buy fruit to feed them."

Monkey stole baby's toy bag

However, in addition to bringing joy, monkeys also pose many dangers. A female tourist from Phu Tho province found the monkeys cute so she took some candy from her bag to feed them.

The monkey dropped a candy on the grass. The female tourist pointed at the candy to show it to the monkey. Thinking that the tourist was trying to grab the food, the monkey immediately jumped up, grabbed the tourist's skirt, bared its sharp teeth, and was about to attack. While the female tourist took off her shoes to sit and pose for a photo on the grass, the monkey sneaked up behind her, gnawed on her shoe, and ran away.

Four monkeys climbed into a 7-seater car and caused havoc.

While a 7-seater car was parked near the A stand, when the owner left the car, 4 monkeys quickly climbed up, lay on the roof of the car, and hung onto the rearview mirror, easily scratching the car. Not only tourists, but also people who fed the monkeys were attacked by them.

Mrs. Phung recalled: "Once, I dropped a cake on the ground and was about to bend down to pick it up when suddenly the monkey standing next to me bit my hand."

Faced with that situation, in recent years, the Provincial Forest Protection Department has repeatedly captured the leader and aggressive monkeys and released them into natural forests such as Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park, Chang Riec forest, Ba Den mountain forest, etc. to limit the situation of monkeys causing harm to local people and tourists./.
