Ensure facilities and human resources

These days, educational institutions in Can Tho City are urgently completing preparations for the 2025-2026 school year. One of the key tasks is to ensure conditions for implementing 2-session teaching/day, in order to improve the quality of comprehensive education for students.

At Thoi Lai Town Secondary School ( Can Tho City), Mr. Tran Quang Nhut, the school's principal, said that he had reviewed the teaching staff and ensured that there were enough to meet the requirement of teaching 2 sessions/day. When the city's Department of Education and Training has further instructions or calls for training, the unit will assign teachers to fully participate.

However, the problem of facilities still has challenges, unable to meet the teaching needs of 2 sessions/day for all students from grade 6 to grade 9. Currently, the school has built 12 more functional rooms, expected to be completed in 2026.

“This new school year, the school plans to teach 2 sessions/day for grades 8 and 9. Grades 6 and 7 will have 2 sessions/day when the 12 functional rooms are completed,” said Mr. Quang Nhut.

Meanwhile, at Tran Quoc Toan Primary School (Can Tho City), preparations were somewhat more favorable. Ms. Huynh Thi Xuan Lan, the school's principal, informed that the school had been applying the two-session teaching/day method since previous years.

In the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 1,422 students from grades 1 to 5. To best meet the upcoming new school year, the school has reviewed its facilities and arranged classrooms for each grade.

With 40 classrooms (not including functional rooms), the school's facilities are basically adequate to meet the needs of this school year. After arranging the classrooms, the school will conduct a general cleaning, arrangement and addition of desks and chairs to the classrooms (if there is a shortage).

Regarding the teaching staff, Ms. Xuan Lan said that the school will hold meetings and assign tasks and classes right from the beginning of the year. After that, teachers will take over and hand over from the old class to the new class.

During the handover process, teachers will proactively discuss with each other about the classroom situation to promptly grasp difficult cases and provide timely training and support.

“For classes that are still lacking teachers and have not been able to arrange them in time, the school has proactively signed contracts with newly graduated teachers to ensure enough human resources to meet the teaching needs of students,” Ms. Xuan Lan added.

Flexible teaching 2 sessions/day

In order to implement synchronously throughout the city, Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued Official Dispatch No. 1154/VPUB-KGVX, to implement Official Dispatch No. 4567/BGDĐT-GDPT dated August 5, 2025 of the Ministry of Education and Training , on instructions for organizing 2 sessions/day for general education in the 2025-2026 school year in the city.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the City People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to preside over and coordinate with departments, branches, commune-level People's Committees and related units to organize 2-session teaching/day for high school students in the 2025-2026 school year.

The implementation must comply with the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training; at the same time, advise the City People's Committee to direct the implementation of contents under its authority.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, organizing two sessions a day aims to improve the quality of comprehensive education in Morality - Intelligence - Physical Fitness - Aesthetics for students, forming awareness and habits of lifelong learning; at the same time, overcoming the situation of illegal extra teaching and learning, building a healthy, fair and effective educational environment.

The organization of teaching 2 sessions/day is flexible, not fixed. Session 1 focuses on the main curriculum; session 2 is for supplementary activities, personal capacity development, life skills education, STEM/STEAM, sports, foreign languages, artificial intelligence (AI)...

For primary school, there will be a minimum of 9 sessions/week, with no more than 7 lessons per day. For secondary and high school, there will be a roadmap, provided that facilities and teaching staff meet the requirements; a minimum of 5 days/week, a maximum of 11 sessions/week, with no more than 7 lessons per day.
