Bai Oi suspension bridge across Lam river in Chi Khe commune (formerly Con Cuong district) - now Con Cuong commune, Nghe An province, was put into use in 2012 with a total investment of 24 billion VND.

The 255.2m long and 2.6m wide bridge contributes to ensuring traffic safety for people in Bai Oi village, especially during the rainy and stormy season.

However, after many years of use, Bai Oi suspension bridge has deteriorated with many rusty spots and cracked concrete. In particular, the historic flood at the end of July 2025 caused the bridge to deteriorate even more seriously.

Specifically, the foot of the suspension bridge and the span leading to Highway 7 were eroded and damaged. Two cable-stayed pier boxes were cracked, making the bridge more fragile in the face of floods...

To ensure safety for people and vehicles, the Con Cuong commune authorities have posted signs prohibiting motor vehicles from crossing the Bai Oi suspension bridge. At the same time, they have implemented a temporary solution of placing steel beams so that people can travel by motorbike and bicycle across the bridge.

However, according to local people, since the suspension bridge has deteriorated, every time they cross the bridge they feel anxious.

Mr. Le Van Tam, Bai Oi village, worried: " We often go on this bridge. After the historic flood, every time I cross the bridge and see the cracks, I always feel restless and uneasy."

Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Con Cuong commune is coordinating with relevant units to urgently implement a plan to overcome the landslides and degradation of Bai Oi suspension bridge.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Chairman of Con Cuong Commune People's Committee said: "Bai Oi suspension bridge is a vital bridge across Lam River connecting National Highway 7 and the center of Con Cuong Commune with 108 households in Bai Oi village. Since the bridge was seriously eroded, motor vehicles cannot pass, making it very difficult for people here to transport goods."

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Cuong commune, the commune is currently reinforcing the cable-stayed pier box and the bridge abutment road, the road surface at the bridgehead, the estimated cost of implementation is about 3 billion VND.

"The repair will be implemented in the coming days to help people in Bai Oi village travel safely on the bridge," said the Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Cuong commune.
