In Hanoi, there are 4 specialized high schools and specialized classes under the Department of Education and Training: Chu Van An High School, Son Tay High School, Nguyen Hue High School, and Hanoi - Amsterdam High School.

Specialized high schools affiliated with universities include: Hanoi National University of Education Specialized High School, Social Sciences and Humanities Specialized High School, Foreign Language University Specialized High School, Natural Sciences Specialized High School (competition ratio not yet announced).

According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, this year 11,283 candidates registered their first choice to enter four specialized high schools. Meanwhile, the total quota for the specialized system of these schools is 1,750.

Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted has the largest number of registered candidates with 4,127, followed by Chu Van An High School with 3,222, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted with 2,805, and Son Tay High School with 1,129.

Arranged by competition ratio of each class, English specialized class (Chu Van An High School) has the highest with 1 vs 31, followed by English specialized class (Nguyen Hue High School) 1 vs 21.14.

This year, the High School for Gifted Education (Hanoi National University of Education) recruits 315 students for 10th grade classes specializing in Math, Literature, English, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Except for Math and English, which recruit 70 students, each of the remaining subjects recruits 35 students.

Candidates take the exam on June 1. In the morning, they take Math and Literature exams, each subject lasting 90 minutes; in the afternoon, they take specialized subjects lasting 120 minutes.

The Foreign Language Specialized High School (University of Foreign Languages, Hanoi National University) enrolls 7 specialized classes with 500 students, of which the English specialized class enrolls the most - 315 students. Each specialized class of Japanese, Chinese and French has 40 students, Korean 25, Russian 15.

The Foreign Language High School held an entrance exam on the morning of June 3. Candidates had to take an exam to assess their abilities in Foreign Language, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Literature and Social Sciences.

In the Foreign Language Proficiency Test, candidates will have 90 minutes to complete 60 multiple-choice questions and one essay question. For the remaining two tests, candidates will have 55 minutes each, with a coefficient of one. The Math and Natural Science tests will have 35 multiple-choice questions, while Literature and Social Sciences will have 20 multiple-choice questions and two essay questions.

The High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) recruits 170 students. The Literature block recruits 66 students, and each History and Geography block recruits 35 students. In addition to this number, the school recruits 34 students in the high-quality program.

Candidates must take four written tests, including Literature, Math, English and a specialized subject. The Literature and specialized subject tests are in essay format, with test times of 90 and 150 minutes, respectively. Candidates take multiple-choice tests in Math for 50 minutes and English for 45 minutes. All take place on June 4.

The High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) recruits 5 specialized groups including Mathematics, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each group recruits 90 students.

The school will hold entrance exams on June 4-5. Candidates must take Math, Literature (round 1) and specialized subjects (round 2). For IT, candidates will take the specialized Math exam. The round 1 exams will last 120 minutes, Math is in essay format and Literature is a combination of essay and multiple choice. Specialized subjects will last 150 minutes.
