The Department of Health has just issued a document requesting the Department of Education and Training to direct its affiliated units to ensure the prevention of pink eye in educational institutions.

Accordingly, the Department of Health requires units to proactively deploy measures to prevent the spread of viral conjunctivitis (commonly Adenovirus) such as: regularly washing hands with soap, using clean water; not rubbing eyes, nose, mouth; not sharing personal items (eye drops, towels, glasses, masks, etc.); daily cleaning of eyes, nose, and throat with saline, common eye drops, and nasal drops.

th
Instruct preschool students how to prevent pink eye.

At the same time, use soap or common disinfectants to disinfect the patient's belongings and utensils; limit contact with people who have or are suspected of having pink eye.

People with signs of pink eye should go to a medical facility for examination, consultation, and timely treatment. Do not self-treat without guidance from medical staff to avoid serious complications.

When detecting students with symptoms such as mild fever, fatigue, sore throat, sticky eyelids, difficulty opening eyes, swollen lymph nodes in front of the ear and under the jaw, etc., it is necessary to guide the child to go to a medical facility immediately for examination, consultation and timely treatment. If necessary, the doctor will order the child to stay home from school to avoid spreading the disease, and at the same time inform the homeroom teacher of the results of the medical examination.

In case of detecting a case of pink eye in the classroom, it is necessary to use soap or common disinfectants to disinfect the students' belongings and desks; notify the health station of the case information for coordination in handling. Strengthen communication on pink eye prevention and control in many forms for teachers, school staff, students and parents. Communication creates consensus among parents with the message that students with pink eye who are prescribed to stay home from school should not go to school.
