According to VNA special correspondent, at noon on September 24 local time, at the United Nations headquarters, President Luong Cuong met with President of the 80th United Nations General Assembly Annalena Baerbock.
The President of the United Nations General Assembly warmly congratulated Vietnam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of its National Day at the same time as the United Nations celebrates its 80th anniversary, as well as hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime at the end of October and chairing the 11th Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 2026.
Ms. Baerbock particularly appreciated the President's speech and important message at the General Assembly on September 23, which expressed strong support for the United Nations in general and the Theme of this year's Session in particular.
Affirming that Vietnam and the United Nations have many similarities in assessing the situation, as well as in their commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations, Ms. Baerbock highly appreciated Vietnam's active, dynamic role, increasing position, and increasingly important contributions at United Nations agencies and forums, including the General Assembly, especially in the context of many challenges facing the world and the United Nations today.
Highlighting Vietnam's initiative on the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness on December 27, which was adopted by the United Nations in 2020, the President of the General Assembly hoped to continue receiving Vietnam's support and active participation in the second High-Level Conference on Epidemic Preparedness, Control and Response to be held in 2026.

The President congratulated Ms. Annalena Baerbock on being elected as President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and highly appreciated the theme of this year's Session proposed by her - "80 years together and beyond for peace , development and people."
Emphasizing that Vietnam persistently and consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification, is an active and responsible member of the international community, and is committed to multilateralism and an international order based on international law. The President expressed strong support for the central role of the United Nations in global governance, coordinating and leading multilateral efforts, and proposing global solutions.
Sharing the General Assembly President's assessment of the complicated world situation with many difficulties and challenges, the President expressed his confidence that with the support of the vast majority of member states, the United Nations will go in the right direction towards its set goals and principles, and said that the United Nations General Assembly needs to promote increased political determination, consolidate international cooperation and solidarity, and uphold multilateralism and international law.
Affirming Vietnam's readiness to increase its contributions to the common work of the United Nations, the President shared with Ms. Baerbock about the preparations to host the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi in October 2025, to take on the role of Chair of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 2026, as well as running for many other important agencies and positions, and asked the President of the General Assembly to actively support Vietnam's efforts.
Appreciating Ms. Baerbock's priorities and commitments, especially in building the staff of the Office of the President of the General Assembly, the President asked Ms. Baerbock to continue to pay attention to, support, and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese officials to work at the United Nations, including the Office of the President of the General Assembly.
The two sides agreed to continue close cooperation to promote common priorities of Vietnam and the United Nations in the coming time./.
