Ho Chi Minh City promotes cooperation with the US

The new US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City hopes that cooperation between the US and Vietnam, as well as Ho Chi Minh City, will develop strongly in the coming time.

On September 25, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Melissa A. Brown, greeted Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc on the occasion of starting his term.

At the meeting, Ms. Melissa A. Brown mentioned the economic priorities during her term, saying that she had met with American companies that have been and are wanting to invest in Vietnam, and wanted to learn more about the expansion of Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc said that after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will still be the financial center of the country. The city wishes to promote cooperation with the US in the fields of finance, technology, and education .

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that the city is in dire need of high-quality human resources and hopes for US support in this regard. Vietnam currently has a number of educational institutions with US investment, notably Fulbright University in Ho Chi Minh City.

Talking about the US tax policy that is causing concern for many Vietnamese businesses, the US Consul General said that she believes the negotiation process between the two countries will bring positive results.

Ms. Melissa A. Brown said she was honored to live and work in Vietnam as the US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, especially when the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Believing that Vietnam and the US still have great potential for cooperation, she hoped that bilateral cooperation would develop even stronger in the coming time in many fields.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc also hopes that the new term of the US Consul General will contribute to further promoting the relationship and wishes her a successful term.

Previously, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang also had a meeting with the US Consul General on the afternoon of September 24.

At the meeting, Mr. Tran Luu Quang affirmed that cooperation between Vietnam and the US is increasingly developing. In particular, Ho Chi Minh City has many advantages, enough room for development and will open up many cooperation opportunities.

Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular will create more favorable conditions for foreign enterprises, including American enterprises, wishing to invest in the city.

In particular, the city focuses on cooperation in science and technology in the coming time, with the goal of becoming a center of science and technology in the region. Mr. Tran Luu Quang hopes that the two sides will further promote cooperation in areas where the US has strengths, such as science and technology, education, etc.

In response, the US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City said that one of her priorities is science and technology, innovation, in addition to education and training.

Regarding trade, she said that improving the investment and business environment will attract more American businesses to invest in Ho Chi Minh City.
