President Luong Cuong meets and contacts with leaders of Bulgaria and Portugal

According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, within the framework of attending the High-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States, on the afternoon of September 23 (local time), President Luong Cuong received Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and met with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

* In a friendly and sincere atmosphere, President Luong Cuong and Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov appreciated the traditional and long-standing friendship between the two countries and expressed joy at the positive development of bilateral cooperation in recent times.

The President stressed that Bulgaria is one of the first countries in the world to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, always accompanying and supporting Vietnam in its cause of national unification and development.

President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides closely coordinate to carry out symbolic activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1950 - 2025), including delegation exchanges between key leaders of the two countries; promote cooperation in areas with great potential and room to lift the cooperative relationship to new heights.

On this occasion, the President thanked the Bulgarian Government for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Bulgaria to live and integrate into the host society.

Sharing the proposals of President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov affirmed that Bulgaria considers Vietnam a top priority partner in Southeast Asia and wishes to strengthen cooperation in the fields of labor, agriculture and food processing, healthcare, education and training.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister also suggested that the two sides work closely to promote comprehensive cooperation, including promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges; and strengthening coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov also highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Bulgaria.

* During his meeting with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President Luong Cuong highly appreciated the positive developments in Vietnam - Portugal relations.

The President suggested that the two countries prepare well for activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1975 - 2025), and make efforts to further promote bilateral cooperation, especially in potential areas such as economics, trade, investment, maritime transport, agriculture, etc.

The President of Portugal welcomed Vietnam's opening of its Embassy in Portugal and thanked the Vietnamese Government for creating favorable conditions for Portugal to soon open its Embassy in Vietnam, thereby improving the effectiveness of supporting the connection between the governments, localities, businesses and people of the two countries, as well as promoting bilateral cooperation in all fields.
